If I was going to build an oval oil tank smoker I would do one like the DP smokers with the angeled door and the firebox in back more grill room and you could rig up a charcoal pan it fit inside the cook chamber too.

After further review...i have decided to go with the firebox in the rear center. Did a lot for sanding today and work on the trailer. I will post some more pics of the build tomorrow. Im hoping to have the oil tank mounted on the trailer tomorrow so i can drive her to the car wash to get power-washed with some de-greaser Very Happy

One, if you place the firebox under the tank, it will too tall for the trailer. Second a wood burner will need bigger vent pipes coming out for air flow if not you will have trouble keeping the fire burning.
I have made some changes to this cook since this photo was taken like put it on a bigger trailer and moved the wood box off the cooker. I also have taken out the gas I cook all wood or charcoal, watch that burner idea because like KAM said it can fill up with gas and blow-up if you can't have a safety shut off on it. Wood don't explode.

I like the looks ofyour smoker NCBBQFAN. Do you have
a build journal posted on it? I did a search and couldnt find one. Imthrowing around some ideas for a build, and thats kind of what I had in mind.
