Thanks for all the kind words, I'm currently at a standstill, my welder is messed up, seems to be a problem with voltage on the arc because it's just spitting like the wirespeed is to fast but its not, it happened right in the middle of a bead.

Nothing makes me madder than a critical tool going down while I am in the middle of a project. My mig went down Sunday while I was working on my smoker. Turns out, it was nothing more than a liner, but it sure put a stop work order on me for the day.

Dog gone it Hillbilly sorry to hear about your welder acting up. you have a mighty fine build going here. I was up at the shop the other night with my soninlaw and his started acting the same way. His was just a bad ground connection on the front of his welder. I hope yours is something simple. Good Luck on your hunt this year. I am a week away myself and ready to hit the woods.

HillbillySmoke hard to really see inside the liner.
1 how old is the liner 2 when was the last time you replaced it

I run 30 or 40 lbs ? spools on my gun after the sec. spool I put
in a new liner.

Always have 2 on hand plus a few more parts for the welder
just in case.

I'd try replacing the liner and wire brushing the rollers sometimes they build up deposits and cause slippage. One other thing is if the wire is exposed to moisture it will cause it to corrode just enough to bind and not feed properly you might check that too.

I am running a Miller 210. When I pulled the trigger, it would flash, then nothing. The wire would melt into a mushroom on top of the tip, then not feed at all. Once I cleaned the tip off, I could pull the trigger (away from the work surface) and the wire would erraticly feed through the tip. The LWS said that this machine comes new with a 30/35 liner. Since I am running 035 wire, they replaced the liner with a 35/45 liner. I haven't had a chance to see how it runs since I got it fixed.

Yup, liners are good for about 40lbs of wire, I change mine everytime I put a new spool in. It's just one of those things, you can run them longer, but at some point they become more trouble to keep fiddling with them. The liners for my 300amp gun are only $11. What you can do is take the liner out, and blow it out with some clean shop air and see if it will fix it until you can get a new one. While your at it, give the drive rolls a cleaning also, its amazing how much gunk builds up on them even when you think your wire is clean.

I can post a few pics of how to change the liner, the first time is always fun, figuring out where all the set screws are is always fun. Remember the liner should slide out pretty easily, if you have to pull hard there is a set screw somewhere still holding it at one of the connections. If you pull too hard you will destroy the liner and there will be no choice in replacing it. The liner is just a really long coil and any imperfections and its shot.

The liner looks like a lawnmower throttle cable.

In removing the liner, if there are any noticeable kinks, you certainly have a problem. Otherwise, I was told by the LWS that it is the coating on the wire that accumulates and causes the problem.

Mine is exactly as you described it, i dont see a liner on the inside though, the outside of mine is coated. im gonna try to find a replacement though and see what happens, im gonna go ahead and replace the guts in the torch tip also. to be honest everything looks fine, but im gonna replace the parts that wear out normally. Thanks for the replys.

You might want to try blowing the liner out, sometimes that will do the trick. However, after 60lbs of wire I would be replacing it for sure. As Smoked Up said, the wire coating just builds up and causes problems in feeding and other odd problems. The good news is that your probably only in for a $20 repair and not a new circuit board or something!

Thanks KAM, I stopped by your post to check it out, It's coming along nicely, this past month has been busy for me, although there are still things i need to do to mine, i got it to where i can use it at camp.

I still need to do the inside of the vertical, at the moment i just welded a rod near the top so i can hang the turkey I'm going to smoke Thanksgiving. I also need to build my shelf on the front, a mount for the propane tank on the bottom rack, a hinged lid for the grill, and a few other things i cant think of at the moment, lol. but I'm in no hurry, gives me something to do this winter.
