I guess there is a first time for everything.

We stopped by a local Cuban/Spanish raunt for a sammie and a pitcher of beer yesterday at lunch time.

This place is an established business that I have been to many times, but not recently.

The service was horrible and there was hardly anyone in the place.

The food was as good as I remembered, but the Cuban Sammie was a little light in the meat department.

I did order a side of black beans and yellow rice which was a huge portion so I had a pile left over.

I asked for a "To-Go" box for the leftovers. Then had to ask for it a second time.

Line item on the bill was an extra $.35, and the box was Styrofoam to boot which I hate anyway (another subject that we have hashed out here previously). Mad

Sure times are tough out there in the raunt industry.

But I can guarantee it will get tougher if you treat the customers you still have like this.

If I have to pay for the box fine. You might want to mention that to your customers.

And if I have to pay for it, please give me cardboard, plastic, or the cardboard style w/aluminum top.

I don't generally post names unless the food and service is horrible.

You were only suppose to hear him whine. Yet again. Very Happy Very Happy Shocked

I've been charged before for my to-go plate and fork on a to-go order. ShockedShocked I suppose this could be a entirely new topic/ post for us to explore. Could it happen to others, does it? Is it right? What impressions are left in the consumer's mind when you feel jewed by them? Will you go back? How many people do you end up telling? Do you express your dissatisfaction with the owner, or silently fume inside?

All valid questions... Anyone, anyone??

Well as a JEW I guess I'll skip the whine on that one. Shocked Confused Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

Just for the record funny man, I don't slander people's raunts by name unless it's a huge issue (like I got sick, the place was filthy, the owners were A-Holes).

As food for thought, I figured a line item for a to-go box was a bit much.

If you are hurting that bad, add the price onto the menu items.

I give to-go boxes and cutlery packs at no charge.

I do however charge for water ($.50) as I have cups, ice, and the cost of the water itself to absorb. It is listed on the menu with the price. Yes, some people complain about it...but it's much cheaper than the bottled water I have in the drink cooler ($1.50)...plus you get refills with the $.50 cup.

Many restaurant POS systems (point of sale, not the other POS Very Happy ) have an option for two different prices for food items. One for here and one for take out. If the food order is placed to go, then the (optional) alternate price is printed on the receipt.

now- I would have paid for the to-go box, cause I'd hate to leave good food behind, but yeah the little surprise $.35 would have been a "huh...hmm" Confused

Is there anyplace you don't go to normally Bob? Laughing Laughing Laughing

Let me know if you and the Mrs. have time time to get together while you are here.

Would love to have you by the house, or if time is an issue meet up for dinner or lunch.

If they told you in advance there would be a service charge, then that would be fine. NOT telling you would be an issue for me. If they told me and I knew I'd have to pay the extra, then I could make a choice.

I got on for you. How about a place that says "I'm sorry, our Mgt doesn't allow us to let you take it home. When I asked, the Mgt didn't know what they meant, but they still wouldn't let me take it home."

Oh, and the restaurant is in Canberra Australia, so I don't think you need a name.... LOL

Tacky.

I have been to a Mexican restaurant that charges extra for the packaging on take-out orders. Once I observed how they package everything in their individual containers I understand why. However, said restaurant does not charge for take-out boxes for left overs.

Slander would be if you were lying.

Otherwise it's just the name of a place you went to that didn't tell you that you were going to be charged for your to-go plate.

BTW, I can see the issue with not being told about the charge. I DO NOT like having my right to choose taken away.
