Well not sure about cook offs but Q for me is about taste and results. I am originally from Texas but now reside in Alasak(the land of NO Q) so all bets are off. Summertime I rarely foil anything unless that Butt is just stuck and I need to get it done asap.
Now in the winter different story. Trying to keep a smoker up to temp at 10 deg F is hard enough. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. And if it means foil, so be it.
Like I said it is all about the results!!!!! _________________ Weber 22.5

| I usually foil then near the end unfoil to harden the bark a little. Most of my family does not like the hard bark that you get when you cook unfoiled for the whole time, that's just our preferance. |

the only absolute reason i use it is if i am pressed for time. there is nothing worse than a yard full of guys wanting to open the lid every 15 minutes. proclaiming "Damn, that smells good, when are we eating."
i have one friend that still wears scars on his hand cause he couldnt keep his stupid a$$ away from the smoker....last time he got that close. now he is the one that tells everyone stay away, "let him do what needs to be done". and he now gets first treats off the cutting board. |
Ask Myron Mixon what size girl pants he wears.
Let us know how that works out for ya'. |
i dont care what he does if he needs a crutch to hold himself up fine. |

I'm not crazy about wrapping my meat before putting it in. In my opinion the results are far superior by leaving it exposed. |
thats how i ended up with a daughter and a son due in october... |

I do not use foil on anything but pork butts and sometimes beef ribs, and thats only if cooking time becomes an issue, other than that no foil. _________________ Horizon Offset (Marshall RD Special)

Sure do wish I was born in Texas so I would know how to cook that perfect BBQ every time without the aid of foil or sauce..
Must be some magic wood growing down that way.. Got to get me some of that one of these days.
Damn my parents for deciding to live in Canada..!! _________________ Chargriller Akorn
