Hello all. I'm in Dahlonega. I have been grilling/smoking for several years now and I am very interested in started a part-time catering business. I am getting a name for myself with the people that I work with and hope to get my name out there even more soon. If anybody is close by and can give me some suggestions or events to cook at, it would be appreciated. Thanks. _________________ I'll take a little smoke and a lot of wine. |

Check with your local health dept. for permit requirements for both catering and vending. Ask them if they have the "personal chef excemption" which helps alot.
Check with your courthouse registrar to register your business and get the city/county business license/permit.
Check with your state dept. of revenue about getting a tax I.D. #.
Also, be sure to check on liability insurance!!
Good luck. _________________ Rocky Richmond - Big Drum Smokers

Good advice Rocky...but in addition, as someone who has endured multiple IRS and Canadian Revenue audits...make sure you have a great accountant and a great lawyer!
Get someone, if you don't already know how, who can take care of your books. The government loves it when your books aren't perfect - turns out that can be quite profitable for them...learned that lesson the hard way. I was focusing my attention to the business when we first started and less attention was paid to the little details like the numbers - I hate bookkeeping, but it is a necessary evil !
If I can be of any help to you, don't hesitate to ask! _________________ Joe Johnson
