Thanks for the kind words guys,I just have gathered all the goodie's for my charcoal basket,I installed three intake's, I used 2" long, 3/4 inch threaded pipe with removable cap's.Im going to just cork the fill hole in the back in case I want to run other thermometers.I hope to get a couple burns in this weekend. _________________ Horizon Offset (Marshall RD Special)

USDA,my ash pan will be 3 inches off the bottom and my charcoal basket will be 3 inches higher then the ash pan. I think if the temps stay under 275 I should be okay.I might even put an inch of water in the bottom when I cook, but I don't think its needed. _________________ Horizon Offset (Marshall RD Special)

That is a mighty fine barrel CB! Great job! Can't wait to hear (or see) how it performs after a couple cooks!!! _________________ “All normal people love meat. A friend of mine had one just like this. His father built it and it worked fine. It wasn't all hi-tech as this one, either. No ash pan, just a big pie plate on bricks on the bottom for the coals, some small vent holes around the bottom and no exhaust stack or thermometer. We used to suspend a turkey in there and slow roast it. Came out so juicy there was no need for gravy.
I'll bet this one cooks way better. |

Thanks guys,I finally put all the finishing touches on it and put a small birds nest of unlit briquettes in the basket with a few chunks of mesquite mixed in,I dumped about 20 lite briquettes in the center of the nest and sat back to let it season. This thing is still humming along, after 5 hours the temp has not moved with only one intake open it sits between 220 to 240 degrees..It works great so far, next week I will load it up with some beef ribs.
