I would imagine that River City was not (at the time) looking to draw blood with his post, just putting out a general warning. I always think it is fair to give folks the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise, and in this case it seems the issue was more than just a rumor..................Good point tho Dawg! Very Happy

Zilla: You might want to add Dixie Boy Smokers to the cabinet style section. http://www.dixieboysmokers.com/phpbb2/index.php
I am sure Joby would like to be included.
Thanks
Mike

is there an updated phone number for Olalla Smokers in Olalla, WA? Their phone number is no longer in service, and their web page/site doesn't list a phone number or address anywhere. I couldn't even find them in the yellow pages, maybe i missed it?

I'm in Georgia and have been shopping around for pits for a while. Seems like all of the pits (mobile) I'd ever pay for are in Texas. Anyone know of any good pit crafters in GA? Love Klose's pits...and Bates...but when you combine the costs of shipping with the average wait of 3 months its a questionable endeavor to place an order.

What is the story with Old Country pits out in Laredo, TX? Anyone ever bought from them.

Wanting a pull-behind with at least one-vertical chamber along with horizontal.

Thanks.

I do not know what your budget is but Stumps makes trailer smokers as well as the gravity feed verticals. Stump is in Centerville GA. The address is http://www.stumpssmokers.com/products3.htm
I purchased two Stumps because I could buy the smoker without having to purchase the trailer.
Thanks

Checked out the Lang smoker...Wow. Nasty little thing. When it says "warmer box"...That is not exclusive is it? I mean the vertical chamber/"warmer box" can be used to smoke ribs, butts, chickens, etc. can't it? Thanks for your help.

I just got my smoker and have noticed they weren't listed ( that I've seen) and worth looking into if you're in the central U.S. , it's smokeyjoesmokers.com....nice designs and my caterer model is very efficient I'm glad to report...his knowledge and experience shows in the finished product- I blindly ordered it and now very glad I made the call ! he uses the top baffle design which really keeps the temp equal from end to end....check out the site if you're around N.E. Oklahoma, give or take 200 miles

I'm going to update the list soon. It's on several boards a a few blogs too so it takes a bit of time to do.

As soon as I see that Dixie Boy is taking orders and has a website I will surly add them to the list.

I have about six new entries to add and at that time I see if all the links are working but the phone numbers are not going to be checked.

Check out www.deepsth.com

A great pit at a fair price.

Below is a list that I have been compiling for a while now. The intention of this list is to provide basic contact information of custom pit builders, to anyone thinking of buying a heavy duty/handmade BBQ Pit, with a few exceptions. Feel free to suggest others not listed here. Thanks to all the guys that have sent new names to me. As of 6-8-2006 all of the links below are working.

Tips on using this list.

- For most of us buying a handmade BBQ pit is a big investment so take your time, do your homework and look at all of the products the different builders have to offer and what the various pits cost.

- Post questions on the forum about options (needed and wanted) to get some feedback from more experienced folks.

- Make a decision on a price limit.

- Consider which design makes the most sense for the way YOU will use the pit.

- Start with the builders closest to your home state to help save on shipping costs. Then study the products and prices, call and ask questions to determine which builder can give you what you want.

- Make a detailed specification list and send it to several builders for quotes. Get exact quotes in writing before any work starts.

- Don't let a builder talk you into or out of anything. Your spending the money not them.

- If your not comfortable with a builder try another one.
