Never had much of a problem with mine. (Fat-50)
I use the water pan as a charcoal pan on one side and cook on the other.
Also burn oak in the firebox.
BTW, Mr. Bear don't like it when you Cross Post

Thanks for your comments,

I looked at the Faq's and did not read about cross posting. Could you explain it to me since I am new on the forum. I assume it may be posting comments or questions that are not strictly forum specific but I am not sure.

Thanks a bunch,

Michael

If you post a thread, "My pit just doesn't work right", in the Cookers section, then you cut and post the same thread, "My pit just doesn't work right", in the General section, that is cross posting.

You might even see it in another forum or two!

What happens is that another person comes in reads the thread in the Cooker section, makes a reply to offer their opinion, and move on.

They later find what they think is the same thread in another section of the site, and their post is not there any more, so they jump my A$$ and accuse me of deleting their perfect answer.

All cross posting does is cause confusion, so we don't recommend it... (a full set of written rules sounds like it will make an appearance soon)! Wink

So if you find you have put a post in the wrong section and you want it somewhere else, send me a PM and if I think it would be better somewhere else I will move it, if I think it's fine where it is I won't.
