Hi from the Los Gatos Mountains. (halfway between Silicon Valley and Santa Cruz). I love to cook and play with fire. My hobbies include making sausage and cured meats, fooling about in a 1910 Stanley Steamer and a 30' steamboat. I'm new to smoking and have had help from my neighbor. (F Boyer of BBQ fame) I'm bringing my semiconductor background into my smoking endevors by using solid state devices to control and monitor temperature. So far I have done some Pastrami, several Bacons, sausages and a goose. Goose fat has to be right up there with Pork fat in the gastronomic department. I look forward to checking in on the Smokering.

Hey Dick, I'm up on the river close to Isleton. Do you race your steamboat on the loop here? Also did you build a homemade temp probe or buy one? _________________ lets eat!! |

Mike, Thanks for the welcome. Frank is a good guy to learn from. (but I can't get him to give me his rub recipe, he says I'll have to die first!)
Murf,
I host the Great Delta Steamboat meet at the B and W Resort in Isleton each year. It's the last full weekend that falls completely within the month of September. Last year we built a Steamboat on the Discovery Channel's "Monster Garage" and Jesse brought it up here to "race".
I use PID Controllers from eBay as the temperature measuring and control device. The actual temperature measurement sensor is a thermocouple or an RTD.
