There are several opinions here if you search this forum.

I like the K-comp a LOT more than original Kingsford, and Sam's Choice briquettes. Less ash, better flavor. But I like OCC Rancher better than K-comp, and it's cheaper ($6.99/bag at Trader Joe's) so that's what I use. Some people like Royal Oak over the K-comp too (been years since I've tried RO so I don't really have an opinion there.)

I agree. I like k-comp but you can get stubb's bricks at lowes at a slightly lower price for 3 more lbs. And like sixfofalcon said, there's the trader joes (rancher) brand for $7 for a 18 lb bag.

If all you can get your hands on is k-comp then go ahead and get a bag and try it out. It is a good choice if you want a natural brick.

Don't forget about this on the Kingsford.
I Know it works @ Winn Dixie & Albertsons.

I use parafin? cubes. Get them at home depot. Look like little frozen milk cubes. Burn clean and are cheap. My problem with using newspaper is all of the ash that flies everywhere.
