Hello everybody. I thought I'd stop by here and introduce myself. After living in apartments for far too long, we will be closing on our first home tomorrow, and moving in next weekend. Right away I am going to pick up a Chargriller with side fire box (they've got these bad boys, w/ sfb, for $139 at the HEB's in Austin!!!). I've always been interested in smoking, and have done so with friends, but was never able to own my own at an apartment. So needless to say, I'm pretty excited. I look forward to posting here for years to come.
BTW, does anyone have suggestion on seasoning the Chargriller? I've already checked out all the mods that will need to be made, but don't know much about seasoning. Any help would be appreciated. I'll post some pics of my first smoke here in a few weeks!!! |

Welcome, I just joined yesterday!
The purpose of seasoning a grill or cooker is to burn the solvents, etc., that have gathered inside the cylinder/s.
I like to use a paint brush (new) and coat the grates with vegetable oil first. Begin a fire and gradually increse the temperature to 350; let it burn down. Clean any residue out by wiping.
Peace,
Big Brother Smoke |

Big Brother has got it goin. Some people like to give the entire inside (except the fire box) a wipe down with cooking oil or lard. Depending on how hot I get it, I like to do mine a couple of times before the first cook. Where abouts are you in Austin? I lived in Round Rock for a few years and loved it. _________________ https://www.linkedin.com/in/michaeloberry |

Thanks for the advice guys, I probably would have greased up the firebox, seriously
Alien - We currently live in the Arboretum area, off of Great Hills Trail near 360. We will be moving to Round Rock, just off Grand Avenue Pky and Picadilly. It's a pretty crazy location, right on the dividing line, in Round Rock, but Pflugerville ISD and Travis County. How long ago did you live here? If it was a while back, it would probably blow your mind now. |

It has been quite a few years. Pflugerville and Georgetown was out in the country and Round Rock was the outskirts of Austin. I lived right behind the Hosp. on I believe 3406 _________________ https://www.linkedin.com/in/michaeloberry |
