I'm participating in a BBQ Competition this weekend. While reading the rules, they say smoke arrestors are required. Dumb question but what is a smoke arrestor? Where would I find one? _________________ Char Griller Smokin' Pro |

can you attach a link to the rules? _________________ Just remember that the toes you may step on during your climb to the top will also be attached to the a$$es you'll be forced to kiss on your way back down! |

Thanks SoEzzy. I'm sure I can just fabricate one out of some small gauge screen I have.
Gotta love this board. One of the most informative out there. _________________ Char Griller Smokin' Pro |

I cut and pasted this from the competition page;
Fire extinguishers are required. You can purchase them at Wal-Mart, Target, Sander’s True Value Hardware, and Big Horn Ace Hardware. Smoke Arresters are required. All competitors will have a fire inspection on Friday.
I really think they mean a "Spark Arrestor" because the fire department has no clue how BBQ is actually cooked and they are probably spewing information that relates to a home fireplace, or wood-stove.
I would demonstrate that my offset cooker is incapable of emitting sparks from it's stacks. And if it was, I have much bigger problems happening than a small fire extinguisher is capable of handling.
depending on what cooker you are using, a fireplace chimney cap may also do the trick without causing too much restriction in flow. Or a piece of hardware cloth over the top of the stacks just to keep the ignorant happy.
if your using a WSM, or other cooker without exhaust stacks, I have no idea what the heck they mean.
I would call the fire department and see what they want or what the heck they are thinking. I tried calling the Frisco fire Dept. and got no answer! _________________ Just remember that the toes you may step on during your climb to the top will also be attached to the a$$es you'll be forced to kiss on your way back down! |

Are you selling to the public or are you competition only. We are going up both days and if we know who you are or your location we can look you up. Frisco is always a good time.

If its anything like here, ALL calls to the Police Dept are channeled through the 911 switchboard. And most of the 911 calls for the entire State go through a call center in Denver. If the phone actually rang at the Frisco Fire Dept, they might have looked at the caller ID and not bothered witha call out of Jurisdiction. OR perhaps they have handled enough calls about this already.
And dont forget, the REAL Southpark is up the road about 30 Miles. Its nowhere near as glamorous as the cartoon makes it look. _________________ Traeger 075 "Big Tex"

I was at a comp one time and they had this Yayhoo fire inspector with soapy water going around checking everyone's propane fitings.
At the Rhode Island competition if your EZ up was bigger than 10x10 you had to have a lighted exit sign.
Are they charging for your carbon emissions too? _________________ D. Tillery
