I know how hard it is to lose a pet -- they are a part of the family and they are missed. I'm sorry for your loss.

I am SO Sorry about your loss. I lost my 18 year old dachshund 3 years ago, and I still think about him everyday! As someone said earlier in the thread. Remember the good times! And getting another dog will help too, even if you think it wont. I didn't think I could get another when I lost mine, but it made things much, much easier to deal with.

Again SO sorry for your loss! Sad

As a dog lover and owner I know what you are going through.

Just think of the good times shared, and no matter how hard it was know in your heart that you made the right decision for your buddy.

Keep your chin up and when the time is right, you will have a new buddy to share your BBQ adventures with Cool

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. I had to put one of our pets to sleep a couple years ago...it is the hardest thing to do. All the good memories I had kept me going. Like the others have said, remember the good times. I'm sure there were many.

Again, so sorry for your loss.

Thank you all so much for all your kind words and advice on moving forward. It really helps when people like all of you understand the love one can have for their kids (pets). Again thank you all for your gratitude and sincerity.

It's time to get the smoke rollin again!

Sorry to hear about your loss, very hard thing to do.
In fact I think it is one of the hardest things to do in life.
I think it has something to do with unconditional love.

Here is a little piece I share with friends that lose their
beloved friends. I have had it for near 30 years and it is
as true as a pork butt takes 11 hours to cook.

DOGS DON'T HAVE SOULS, DO THEY?

I remember bringing you home. You were so small and
cuddly with your tiny paws and soft fur.
You bounced around the room with eyes flashing
and ears flopping. Once in a while you'd let out a little yelp
just to let me know this was your territory.
Making a mess of the house and chewing everything
in sight became a passion, and when I scolded you,
you just put your head down and looked up at me with
those innocent eyes, as if to say, "I'm sorry, but
I'll do it again as soon as you're not watching"

As you got older, you protected me by looking out the
window and barking at everyone who walked by.
When I had a tough day at work, you would be waiting
for me with your tail wagging just to say,
"Welcome home, I missed you."
You never had a bad day, and I could always count on
you to be there for me.
When I sat down to read the paper and watch TV, you
would hop on my lap, looking for attention. You never
asked for anything more than for me to pat your head
so you could go to sleep with your head over my leg.

As you got older, you moved around more slowly. Then,
one day, old age finally took its toll, and you couldn't
stand on those wobbly legs anymore, I knelt down and
patted you lying there, trying to make you young again.
You just looked up to me as if to say you were old and
tired and that after all these years of not asking for any
thing, you had to ask for one last favor.

With tears in my eyes, I drove you one last time to the
vet. One last time, you were lying next to me.
For some strange reason, you were able to stand up in
the animal hospital, perhaps it was your sense of pride.
As the vet led you away, you stopped for an instant,
turned your head and looked at me as if to say,

"Thank you for taking care of me."

I thought,

"No....thank you for taking care of me."
