Had to put my best friend and bbq buddy of 10 years down last week. I grilled the other day and it just didn't seem the same without him. I'm dreading the all day smoke! Crying or Very sad

One of our dogs got killed by a car almost 3 years ago. We went and got another within two weeks. Helped the process alot! Didn't think that I wanted to do that, but afterwards, I am glad that we did!... Can't cook without a buddy to watch. Our new dog (almost 3 now) is right under my feet the whole time...Zak the Jack Russell terrier.

I found this quote which helped me after our family dog of 11 years died.

"God will prepare everything for our perfect happiness in heaven, and if it takes my dog being there, I believe he'll be there." - Billy Graham

Commiserations for your family's loss, I lost one myself last month, and I still break down every couple of days!

I'm starting to have good memories flow more often, but it still hurts like crazy!

I'm very sorry for your loss. We have Keeshonds (coats like a chow). Years ago one of my BBQ budies was doing his best to get his at the smoker....dad had it loaded with spares and blazing with hickory...that drip bucket was too tempting to resist. Bad thing was he was at the bucket for 30 min while I was tending other things....his back became the drip bucket. He came in looking like he had been to visit the Exxon Valdez...but he sure smelled good. We had 60 people coming over that evening so mom took the dawn dishwashing liquid to him. She got most of the slick out but he still smelled like a smokey slab for a week or so! I have lost 4, including him over the last 15 years and it is always heartbreaking. My thoughts are with you. Your buddy and my buddy will probably be manning the smoker in a better place.

I'm real sorry to see this. He looked like a good helper. As someone who has only had four-legged kids, I know the empty spot that's created when they leave us.
