Thanks C.B., I have to keep remembering Mrs.K.A.M. has to lift this thing so I am glad she is keeping me in check Very Happy I hope to get the rest done tomorrow and get it blasted so I can paint it, then maybe a test run to see how she cooks. Smile

Thanks erniesshop, I am not sure yet but I would love to have one, although the price of one might keep Mrs.K.A.M. from saying I need one. For now all she wants is two grates and me to be through. Laughing

It looks like you put a ton of work into the charcoal basket alone and it looks great. The whole thing is coming together nicely now.

I dont see nuttin ugly about your ugly drum smoker yet kam.
if you need something ugly maybe you can use this

Mr yuk stickers they passed out in the 70s remember, LOL {oh my gosh}

Just an idea there kam hope you at least chuckled a bit. I like your intakes but as i found out with mine the handles get fairly warm, so that might be something for you to keep on eye out for.You might not have a problem with them but be aware.
simple design on you access door i like it alot.
Great job on your charcoal basket i like your brace around the top of your side ring. Your basket should last quite a while.

Thanks American West, the basket took about 3hr. to build. I don't have a ring roller but I had a piece of 18'' pipe that served as a nice curved anvil. I built one similar for Necron99 a while back so I did not have to do a lot of thinking just beating and welding.

Thanks morick, Thats pretty cool Cool I had forgot about that until I saw the pic, I might use that for my avatar Very Happy I appreciate the heads up on the intakes, I discussed it with Mrs.K.A.M. and I wanted to put wood knobs on them but she said what about the little stick I adjust the WSM with I said OK Dear Rolling Eyes

I installed the racks this evening and welded in the thermometer sleeves I built, the probes will be just under the grates but can slide out at any time.
Here is the top sleeve, you can see the bottom probe in place.

This is the top probe just under the grate.

The two thermometers we had at the house from the outside.

Love the not so ugly drum smoker! You are coming up with some great stuff there!!! I like the probes looks like some sort of Medieval torture device lol! Looks very functional! You should put a pulley system with a counter weight or a motor and have it lift the lid and all of the grates up out of the drum!? Hmmm, just thinkin sorry k.a.m.

I have to say, the little thermo wells have got to be the coolest thing I have seen in a while. I may have to borrow that idea for mine. Well done KAM!

Thanks J0K3R-X, You and I must think alike Very Happy at one point I had thought about how I could rig up an electric hoist to raise the lid Laughing

Thanks RedneckRocket, I got the idea a while back on my offset. I used to have a thermometer in the upper part of the door, and when I moved them to grate level I put a plug in that hole, well the other day I had drilled the plug to give me a middle reading and it worked so I figured I could just drill the middle of a bolt for the UDS. I hope it works for you. Very Happy

Thanks Jim_K, I am almost done. I am hoping Mrs.K.A.M. will get to test it out this weekend.

Thanks for the kind words Old Smoker.

Thanks Haaseman, I was mumbling some thing about how picky Mrs.K.A.M. was the other day, and she was quick to respond with, well if you wouldn't come up with all these ideas I wouldn't want them on my cooker Laughing

RedneckRocket, I might have a fight on my hands with that one Laughing

Thanks Brinnie, this morning I am dropping it off to be sweep blasted and hopefully pic it up this evening so Mrs. K.A.M. can cook on it this week end. Very Happy I am probably going to be using the thermometer sleeve idea again, its pretty nice to be able to just slide them out.
