Anyone use ground chipotle to fire up their bbq sauce instead of something like cayenne pepper? I am trying to get the burnt while you eat the meat not after. So i saw the ground chipotle in GFS but it was so expensive that I didn't even consider it, but I stopped at Pittsburgh Spice the other day and picked up a pound for $9.95. Anxious to give it a whirl.

| yea, I've got the McCormick chipotle powder and I've used it exactly like you're saying, as a replacement for cayenne in recipes. I really don't remember how much it cost, but I remember thinking I just had to have it. It smells and tastes awesome. |

I actually try to use Chipotle inplace of cayanne when ever I can. While I get the heat I want, I feel the chipotle's heat is more "rounded" and covers more taste buds. Giving a more rounded heat. _________________ "Once while on Safari we realized we forgot the corkscrew.... for almost two weeks we had to live on nothing but food and water."

| I use chipotle in my rub because it adds the slow burn plus a nice smoky flavor. I get it from Zach's spices out of Deer Park Texas. |

I cut the Jalapenos in have and remove the seeds/stems. Put them on a rack in the smoker for a few hours. Then I put them in a dedicated coffee grinder to make my own chipolte. I got the coffee grinder on sale for like $8-$10 at a Kohl's. This goes into several of my rubs. I too like it better than cayenne.

I purchased some ground chipotle during my first trip to Penzey's. The quality difference between the ground chipotle from Penzey's and cayenne pepper from a grocery store shelf is astounding. In fact, I found the chipotle to have more heat to it than the cayenne pepper that I had from the local store. From now on, I will always purchase spices from a spice store. _________________ If the momma isn't happy, then no one is happy.

This where I get my spices at, and never had a problem with them. Shipping is pricey on one or two items, but I usually try to get at least 5 or more of them on one order. Good thing is you can get everything at one place.

Edit: Just went there and they don't have chipotle. _________________ Gunny 3073/4044/8411
