My wife and I started our BBQ venture last year. We started out selling our Q at auction sales. Did OK! Still do! We did get into the money when we convinced the fair board to let us into the County Fair.$$$$$ Count the signs. Not bad for 7days.
We entered a KCBS contest last fall for the first time! Posted 10th in ribs. Honorable mention in dessert.

Damn I love Pork! Beef! Chicken! and my home made Sausage!

boss284,

Your two finishes in ribs and dessert are great for your first contest. Isn't it nice to walk up on the stage in front of your peers to pick up a ribbon? I am sure I saw you there as I visited with about all the teams but I am pathetic with names.

To post a picture, you need to have it up on the web. Your server may provide space for your pictures or you can use one of the free services. I would recommend Photobucket if your server doesn't have space. Be sure if you use something else, that you have direct linking.

If you have a picture or two that you want on this forum, cut them down to 640X480 and send them to me and I will get them up on the forum. Course, it's gonna cost you a beer at Nelsonville this year.

Dave
The contest only gave ribbons for the first nine places. They just called our team name for 10th in ribs. I think most of the other comps give ribbons for top 10. Oh well, I am looking for bigger and better this year. Ha Ha! The beer is on me.

Boss, I know what you mean about the $$. When we would inspect the State fair in Miami. Some of the vendors in 1998 were making $20,000 daily. So when we would not let them open because of major violations, they had incentive to correct things immediately.

Well, I've heard of those $20,000 days, but have not seen one for myself! Very Happy I'm pretty careful about doing any kind of festival here, as they usually overload the food vendors to the point nobody makes any money! Shocked

Glad to hear your business is going well boss!

Down in Miami at the time, they could not get any ethnic (cuban) vendors to participate. In fact at the fair we only had three. So whenever any one would enter, the line would go down the block for original cuban street food. Things may be different now. As with anything, once the word gets out, everyone wants to do it and the market gets flooded with the fast buck crowd.

Ed, unlike you northern guys, the "season" here started last October! Very Happy

Been real busy. I got two 115 pound hogs smoking for a party of 210 tommorrow in venice, a pig roast Saturday evening after the market for 60, and another pig roast down south on Sunday for 180. Next week, I got two more! Shocked

Hope your doing great as well, enjoy your spring! Very Happy
