I am wondering what size and length bolts you are all using and that size drill bit fits best with that bolt I ask because the bolts I bought have a square shape at the top - it seems like this will keep the bolt from fitting flush.
Also what size drill are you all using to drill the vent holes? Should I just go ahead and invest in a step drill? What size?
Thanks! |

belmontjohnson, it sounds like you have carriage bolts, if you use stove bolts they are threaded to the end and will fit flush to your drum. I do not know what works best but I would use at least 1/4'' and probably you can get by with 2'' to 2 1/2'' long. If you are using 3/4'' pipe for vents then a 1'' hole is needed to thread the pipe into it from what I have read, and I would use a step bit that way you have a clean hole and you can use it on all your bolts as well. _________________ Always remember slow and steady wins the race.

| Thank you! I will buy the step bit - I don't remember seeing any bolts called stove bolts - do you know if they would be called something else at home depot or lowes? |
