..... how about having them sand blasted out? A local company here is sandblasting the inside and outside of my barrel and then powdercoating the outside in my choice of color for $50 total. They would have sand blasted it for free (or beer money) if i didnt want it powder coated if they could do it when they got around to it while doing another project.
Just an idea for you guys to check out.

Everyone I contacted quoted me $75 the price of a new drum... hell $50 was the price of a professionally reconditioned and blasted drum out here..

DENALI, that is what I do for most my builds. A good friend of mine runs a blasting yard and I get with him and plan on a time to bring my projects there as to not interfere with the daily grinds of his business, in return I do some welding or fabbing for him.

Keep in mind the normal powder coating is only good up to 350 degrees. The heat treated powder coating is good up to 1300 degrees.

Thanks fo the heads up about the sand blasting the inside of the tank.

I like the idea of powder coating! I just started with new unlined drums that I picked up for about $33 each.
