Hello there...just registered and thought I would introduce myself.
I have been a frequent guest of the site for some time and have always enjoyed the posts and responses, some of which are quite hilarious!
I have been in the food industry for a long time, having worked as a busboy, waiter, line cook, and finally, chef, in a Mexican restaurant while I was a student in high school, college and grad school. I trained at the Cordon Bleu, and now am a founding partner with Caroline's Rub - Fine Spice Creations, a manufacturer of dry rubs, smoked salt, and Texas chili seasoning.
Both my wife and I were born and raised in Houston, Texas, but now live in Ottawa, Ontario where we ended up for work, prior to starting Caroline's.
Like I said earlier, I have always enjoyed reading the posts on the forum, and I hope this isn't out of line, but I would like to extend to the readers of this forum a discount on our dry rubs, smoked salt, and Texas chili seasoning - Take 15% off your order of $15.00 or more!! To receive this offer, simply select the items you would like to buy, and enter the coupon code FORUM1017 in the coupon / discount box at checkout. Your discount will be automatically calculated and displayed on the next checkout page.
Thanks again, _________________ Joe Johnson

Welcome! Couple of comments though, since you decided to advertise...
You should offer larger quantities of the smoked salts for the competetive cookers. And your prices are steep as well. Spice Barn sells 5 pounds of hickory smoked salt for $21. |

Thanks for the warm welcome from most of you...I would hope that damian2003gt would be a little warmer and a little less quick to pass judgement ...I was not attempting to pull a shamless self promotion, I simply did what the instructions said, and introduced myself and attempted to offer a discount to the forum.
As for the larger quantities, we do offer them in bulk at a far reduced cost. Keep in mind that Spice Barns hickory salt isn't really smoked salt - it is salt combined with artificial hickory and fillers. Ours is a true smoked salt using our own internally patented process. No artificial fillers, additives, or junk. Hence the reason theirs is significantly less expensive - to do it right is not cheap. Additionally, all of our pricing is in Canadian dollars which represents an immediate discount for those in the U.S.
I will definitely be contacting Garry about the advertising. Thanks again for the welcome, and I look forward to chatting with you guys again! _________________ Joe Johnson

Joe....just wanted to give you a quick thanks for stepping up to advertise on The Smoke Ring. It was nice to hit the site the other day and see your ad on the front page. I hope you'll find it a good way to spend some of your advertising dollars and I will definitely be visiting your site to see what you've got!
Thanks again... _________________ Mike

Welcome to the board Joe, and welcome to Canada!! I'm in Sudbury and I just joined the board myself as well. Hope you've adjusted to the climate up here by now!
I work at Science North where we actually just finished our biggest job ever in San Antonio. I guess things really are bigger in Texas after all! We created and installed some shows at the newly renovated and reopened Aztec Theatre at Aztec on the River.

Hey Ric...
San Antonio is an awesome city...it was one of my favorite places to go and spend a weekend with the wife when we lived in Houston. Not much to see on I-10 getting there other than a whole lot of flat, but once you arrived, it was always a good time.
I don't think anybody could ever get used to the temps here, but I have to say that this winter was really pretty mild in comparison to the past...knock on wood! I think we only went with the -30s and -40s for a couple of weeks this time around, and February wasn't bad at all. I have to admit though, not having year round summer has really made me appreciate the spring and summer... _________________ Joe Johnson
