The egg that is let to develop partially into a chicken and buried in the sand to ferment, I belive the correct spelling is "Balut" almost any Asian mart should have these in the cooler They are typically marked with "B" on the shell in marker.
I have helped prepare chicken feet, Sweetbreads, tripe, and a host of other items people may consider odd.
As a child my grandfather would always be preparing squid and octopus, I did not know it was a delicacy until I was of school age. It is just what we ate for Sunday dinner along with huge amounts of Pasta, fresh and cured sausages, excellent crusty breads, Fava beans, and wonderful hard and soft Italian cheeses.
Walleye cheeks?? really Roxy?? what is weird about that? in this area it is considered the best part of the fish! And so many people are not aware of them.
How about sturgeon roe right out of the fish with a little seasoning, I am talking eating it on the shore right after the fish is caught.
I have a few pounds of bear meat in the freezer right now, I will probably do a bear/beef pepperoni with it.
In Europe, there is a poultry dish that is a whole cooked baby bird just hatched, Can anyone think of the name of that? Beak, guts, feet, and all, your supposed to stuff the whole thing in your mouth and feel the bones crunching while you chew and it's guts squirt out into your mouth. Seen it, never tried it!
Stink fruit?? Bitter melon? Limburger cheese? Flying fish Roe (Tobiko, it is like a party in your mouth!) |
It was weird to me cause I did not know the fish had a cheek let a lone that you could eat them..
those eggs with the chicken in them are not legal up here but a lot of ethnic stores will have them stored out back.. My brother in law loves them.. BLAH..!! _________________ Chargriller Akorn

They had something like this in Korea, snake infused Soju {a 50 proof sweet potato vodka}. The why and what for.... well lets just say that Viagra & Levitra have probably replaced concoctions like this, and for that matter Dog Stew.
As for fish cheeks, that prime wee medallion therein is considered the best cut of meat. No area specificity to it, anywhere you go that is the case. _________________ Traeger 075 "Big Tex"

| Not to weird to me but some folks look kinda bewildered when I tell them Nutria rats are good. When I was in high school I ran a trap line with a good friend and his father, on the weekend we would fry them or make gumbos at the trapping shack. |

You owe it to yourself to try nopalitos some time jeepdad. Common where I grew up and worked until we moved from Texas to Ohio, especially with eggs (migas).

Hmm - maybe for me, sherbet and BBQ sauce made with prickly pear cactus fruit are things others would consider weird. _________________ Let's hope SoEzzy can ditch his heavy hand on photos in 2016!

This guy was busted last summer about a half hour from where I live. I guess there is a market here in the states as well.

I had bear once, I didn't have the same experience some of you did! It was the most foul smelling, disgusting meat I've ever tried. Maybe irt was the cook, I don't know but it was gross! _________________ The Double Eagle Clubhouse Grille

IMO It was the person who shot it that’s at fault with the foul taste. If you plan on eating bear (generally fall hunting season in NE) they are putting on fat for hibernation. If one plans to eat a bear you need to skin it immediately as most of the stored fat is between the hide and the meat and comes off with the hide. If it is not skinned in a timely fashion the fat will turn rancid in the heat and sour the meat. YMMV. _________________ “Franken Smoker”
