Any of you guys have anything special on Mothers Day. I know most restaurants are packed on Mothers Day. Trying to get an idea to do a special with my advertising. Anybody got anything? _________________ Sam Diggity's BBQ

A special might be a good idea if you have a "joint" bbq place...you know, mama probably wouldn't have that as her first choice for Mother's Day.
If you have a somewhat 'normal' restaurant, don't worry about spending money for advertising. They'll be beating down your door regardless.
M'sDay was always one of the busiest Sunday lunches of the year...never did anything special or any type of advertising for this "holiday". _________________ Somewhere in Kenya...a village is missing their idiot. |

I was at a place here in TX on Sat night and on the table they had a sign saying something like.... Everyday ONE table will get a BLANK CHECK instead of their regular bill (check) as part of their "stimulus package".
But, this place can seat 290 people and (at least weekends) was packed and had a waiting line when we left. |

In the mainline highline restaurant business, Mothers day is known as your "make it, or break it" day. If your mothers day event is a huge success, you're golden. But if you fail, you can usually expect that failure to stick with you for the rest of the year.
Many places will toss their foodcost ratios to the wind and run as high as an 80% cost just to get the recognition and hope to grab a bunch of new customers.
And then look at Valentines day, Totally different outlook, most restaurants will gouge on their pricing, off a very limited set menu with low quality overpriced crap. And people still come back afterwards! WTF?
I do not see a BBQ-Based restaurant needing to worry too much about mothers day. Most of the mothers day crowd are looking for Champagne brunches, free flowers, and all that other garbage.
If I was running a restaurant right now, I would run an unadvertised special for mom's that may show up. but nothing too spectacular or try to compete with the country-club and high-end hotel offerings that are out there. _________________ Just remember that the toes you may step on during your climb to the top will also be attached to the a$$es you'll be forced to kiss on your way back down! |

That just MIGHT work!!!! Get to Costco and/or Sam's and buy a BUNCH of fresh flowers (they are CHEAP there) and then make up a bunch of arrangements (or just as they are) and give away as a "drawing" every hour or so throughout the day using the numbers from their receipt check.
You could also have them on the tables and when # drawn, say "your table arrangement is free for you to take home"
I do this in my catering and use them for my center piece then leave them with my hostess when done....makes for a VERY happy client |
