i have been looking high and low for a nice big pit that i could pick up at a good price and then spend some time customizing. well i found it! this is a home made pit on a home made trailer and i have had a blast working with it. all of the welding work i have had done by a local welding company that has been great to work with. they have put in a plate and stack to make this a reverse flow (the old stack gets closed off once the pit warms up). they added on the crown (my last name is king and screen name and team name is the SMO KING). they are currently building in a warming box/ oven over the fire box so i can do potatoes and beans and what ever else in there. any way its been lots of fun and i wanted to share my progreess so far. any thoughts or comments are welcomed
this link shows the pit before i made any changes:

and this link shows how it looks currently:

this is not a finished project, i still have plenty of things that i want to do, but i will probably leave it pretty much like this for a while.
tell me what you think. _________________ -Adam King

Wow Adam.....nice work, it's hard to believe that's the same pit. Only thing I see thats missing is some meat on the grates and some thin blue smoke coming out of the stack _________________ Mike

smo king,
That is a great turn around. Where did you get that rig? I thought I saw it for sale on either austin craigslists or some other web classifieds (ebay, etc...) a while back. My thoughts back then were that would take a lot of work. I'm glad you did it and I'm sure you'll be cueing up a storm.
FYI...If you're into BBQ cookoffs, there's one in 2 weeks in Helotes (near San Antonio). I plan to go, maybe we can meet up and share some cue. _________________ "Tag line? We don't need no stinkin' tag line!"

Looks like a keeper, before long you`ll have a yard full of smokers to tinker around with if ya keep it up then your wife will give ya one of thoses "don`t you have enough smokers" like mine says when another one follows me home. |

Good job on the rehab, dude! What did you use for rust removal? I always have great results with naval jelly. _________________ Leading the quest to abolish propane from Que'dom...

Hahahahaha hahahahha ...
It's sold in harware stores, including lowes and home depot. It's a pink jelly that either comes in a little tub or in a spray bottle. You simply spray or wipe any loose particles from the surface, wipe or spray this stuff on, and five minutes later, wipe all the rust right off. _________________ Leading the quest to abolish propane from Que'dom...
