Thomas: Well, I'm not sorry I spent the money on the gas grill! Of course, I built my own, so it is now worth twice as much as the initial investment!
I use a weber kettle at home (I have gone through three of em' in 20 years) but they just are not practical for feeding large groups. Blanket statement's work well for those with narrow minded pursuits!
Everyone here has a different idea, based on their particular needs.
Mike, that smoked Bologna looks great! _________________ BBQMAN

What the heck does"...external means of induction..." refer to exactly.
As for the meds, I'm never taking those pills again and you can't make me.
Maybe I've just reverted to being a grumpy, old, ill-tempered traditionalist because I'm stuck in Texas! What in the world do these people have against Tennessee, anyway! Hells bells, bunches of us died in the Alamo, too
But, I totally agree that everyone has, and is entitled to, their own ideas and mechanisms.
I am curious about smoking bologna, though. How effective is it to smoke a pre-cooked meat that's already soaked in nitrates? _________________ Leading the quest to abolish propane from Que'dom...

Have you tried one of the Weber Ranch Kettle Grills? They are huge!! Very expensive for a charcoal grill though. I use one of the discontinued Weber 26-3/4" kettle grills. Love it. _________________ Rocky Richmond - Big Drum Smokers

Ahhh, Now I'm beginning to see things more clearly. You guys like smoked Bologna because it looks like a football with both ends blown out.
OK OK, clemency for all baloney lovers! Now, do we get clemency for BBQ beef face. Barbacoa anyone! _________________ Zilla

Rocky, those are great grills. I saw them in action on a cruise a few years back- they had two of em' and fed a good sized crowd. They do take up a sizable amount of space, and are pricey at arounf $800.00. They just were not practical for my needs. _________________ BBQMAN

"...External means of induction..." refers precisely to an external mechanism capable of generating smoke from wood and then induced by way of a positive draft into a cooking chamber...Mine.

Zilla,
I'm with you on the barbacoa. Heck, I've smoked a tongue (lengua) before.
Wow...the barbecue Ten Commandments are stirring up different views, just like the original ten. Different religions, different cueing philosophies.
One can't help but remember the movie "History of the World" by Mel Brooks. When Moses comes out with 3 tablets and says, "I have 15...(drops one)...I mean 10 commandments..."
Oh yeah, who cares about the last 30 years, now is what's important.
HOOK 'EM BABY!!!!!!!

I hear ya ...
Hear now your getting out of hand! I really like Hickory and Mesquite.
Hickory, Mesquite and Apple to be exact. I call clemency on that and any kind beef for the Texans.
If we are going to right the 10 commandments of BBQ we should be all inclusive not exclusive. |

Inclusive…. Well in that case, I guess it will be more guidelines instead of commandments. … just kidding….I think. Instead maybe we should all work on 10 condiments. _________________ https://www.linkedin.com/in/michaeloberry |

Sorry Texas guys..Vince was the MAIN reason yall won many games this year, not just against SC...he was Superman, and no one brought the kyrptonite not to say yall won't win most of your games..but look at what OU went through with a new QB at the controls if you're smart, and since ya love Q you use your head..DON'T bet your paycheck on the horns in the BIG games...Or I'll have ta charge big interest on the loans you'll be askin for!! BOOMER SOONER Some good brisket might get the interest rate down! |

I've never tried nor seen barbacoa, but since I'm only an hour from Mexico, I'm hoping to get a taste at some point. I've heard a lot about it! _________________ Leading the quest to abolish propane from Que'dom...

Mike, I never bet on anything, let alone the Longhorns. Actually I don't even follow sports so I don't really know what y'all er talkin bout. However, that BBQ Bologna still looks like a roasted football to me
Thomas P. If and when you get the Barbacoa make sure it's the "ALL MEAT" kind. There are some shops that sell "MIXED" that includes brains and other such unnecessary ingredients. Then some salt and some really hot salsa and a steaming hot cup of coffee. Gooood. _________________ Zilla

I'll grant clemency on the log lighter, but I sure am sorry that you wasted all that money on a gas grill. |
Okay, I haven't started doing real bbq yet, probably within the next week. But grilling certainly has it's place. If I put a 20 oz porter house on the gas grill with a little seasoning and cook it medium rare you will definetely not be able to say anything bad about grilling. I also put a small smoker box in my grill and add a small bit of hickory. The small amount of smoke adds a touch of flavor to the steak. I'm sure ribs, chicken and lots of other things are much better with real bbq, but for a good steak you need a grill! Am I wrong??? _________________ Jim |
