Hi All,
I am looking to buy a grinder/stuffer that will get me started into making sausage.
I looked at Cabela's and saw this:
Cabela's Pro Grinder and stuffer:
http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?id=0044811517628a
It is on sale for $129 and says it will grind and stuff.
I am not looking to use it every day, but to make sausage occasionally.
Thanks for the input.

| It will probably be fine for small batches of sausage but I don't think you will like stuffing with it, especially if you are doing snack sticks or semi-dry sausage where they need to be stuffed really tight. A 5lb upright stuffer is pretty cheap and does a great job. |

That will work, and you can stuff hog casings for link style sausages without much trouble. Stuffing out of the grinder takes a bit of getting used to, but works well.
Don't get in a hurry, don't stuff so tight that the casings burst, and use the "off" button until you get in the rythmn. You can start off by making a continuous ring and twist the links later, or as you gain confidence, twist as you stuff.
I use this one:
http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_36989_36989
It's more than twice as powerful (1000w vs 450w) and the same price. Sometimes NT puts it on sale for $99.
I started off with one like you are looking at. When my friends found out how good home-made sausage is, I went from grinding 5lbs to 20lbs in a hurry. If you get into sausage making, you will want a bigger, faster grinder pretty soon. just my 2 coppers.
I agree, for small snack sticks etc. a vertical stuffer can be very useful. It's one more thing to get out, set up, and clean up, so, I use mine when it's the best tool choice I have vs stuffing with the grinder. _________________ -=- Jerry -=-

Thanks for the replies. I was trying to get a machine that I could use to both grind and stuff. Like mentioned, one machine to clean, store etc.
I do not plan to make small snack sticks, etc (yet)
Looks like I will start of the with the grinder from Northern Tool and see how it goes for stuffing.
Thanks

| At times, Northern Tool, they put their 15 lb. stuffer on sale. It is a nice addition to doing sausage. |
