Mark my neighbor has been building this pit.
Friday he called me to come over and give him a hand
on this matter.

Sprayed the inside with pam and got the fire going

Picture of the doors on the pit

Here is Mark with his new kid

Some pictures of the pit

I was there for 3 hours playing with his new toy. the pit came up to temp.
and ran really good, played with the controls to see how every thing
would react.

All and all Marks pit just needs some paint on it and it will be ready to cook.
We took the temp to 350 and just let it run.

NOW for the rest of the Story

I get in my truck and pull out of the garage to drive over to Marks house.
I look out to the street,my mail box is no where to be seen.
I'm thinking some ahole stole my mail box.
Get out of the truck and walk to where my box used to be,

This is a picture of my mail box before Friday 13

These pictures are on Friday
No mail box

This picture is looking down the street

By now I know they didn't take the mail box, but for some reason
they wanted to run it down (not good for them)
Picture of where they come to a dead stop

Man my poor little mail box

Some kids took daddies truck for a little ride the night before, and
ran over any thing they came across (were talking a butt load of
mail boxes out where I live. The sheriff told me the next day
they took out about 50 + mail boxes.
I can see the kids running them over like little trees and laughing
there a!!es of.

Well too bad for them, when they hit my box that was the end of there
joy ride. They are now in the fun house.

Picture of my poor little mail box

Mark came down and help me set it back in the hole.
I will wait until it gets a little warmer to 1 fix the box and
paint it 2 to reset in the ground.

I made the box out of 1/4"+3/8" steel, the pole is 1/4" x4"x6" steel.
When the sheriff came over to file the report (one of many)
I also had about 6 of my neighbors there to,we were all standing
around laughing about the kids hitting the mail box, the sheriff
comes over and opens the door and looks inside and starts laughing.
He told me the reason they got caught was the mail box got stuck
under their truck and could not drive it, the front wheels were off
the ground.

I feel sorry for the kids, because they have a long road to travel down
now with the law.

All I can say is watch out for black and red mail boxes in
Stilwell Kansas Laughing

Nice looking pit!
A buddy of mine had the same problem with mail boxes. He is a welder and made one that a tank would not destroy. And like you they had lots of fun till they tried his mailbox. Laughing Laughing

Chuck

Real nice job on the pitt.

I watch allot of detective movies and I think I would like to
try and put myself in the criminals spot for a second. I
am driving down your 194th street and the steering wheel
of my Ford F-150 becomes fixed on a certain M-F Red mail
box. I am thinking it is wood or plastic and an easy target but
I cannot seem to change direction till it is too late.
I am then marroned on top of a mail box that is strong
enough to be used as a hydraulic car lift. As I sit in the truck
I remember what my daddy and Jim Croce always sang about
You don't tug on Supermans cape you don't spit into the wind
and for sure you never try to run over a Stilwell Mailbox when
your out riddin with your kin.

Ya know I should have listened to Daddy.

If Stilwell's finest needs any help investigating please
give a call to 1-800-COALCRACKERCOP

I love that story.... my brother in Ohio did the same thing with his mail box after replacing it three times. The difference was the kids would stand up in the bed of a pick-up an hit the box with a baseball bat. My brother was outside late one night getting some wood and witnessed the hoodlums coming down the road and when they came to his box they got a life lesson and a sore a#$ from falling out of the truck.

I thought it was odd that you had a photo of your mailbox until you gave the details of its construction. You are to be congratulated. nice work........

Chuck

Here are the pics of the mailbox we made at the
neighbors 20 some years ago it is still standing.
Tell the hoodlums around your house to take a shot
at it but they better have something bigger than an
F-150 when they hit it.
Oh yeah I forgot to tell you it is in 4 ft of concrete.

I told my mail man to put my mail in his box

Real nice pit chuck....real nice, love the chrome stacks.

The mail box stories seem to be a bit familiar.
When i was a growing boy at home, we used to have problems with the local kids hitting our box too.
Dad went to a farm auction & found a big ole iron hand water pump, like the ones he had back on the farm, filled it with concrete and cemented it in about 4 foot down.
Last time that we ever had any problems, cept when the county snow plow hit it & bent their blade all the hell.
I remember some guy standing on the porch cussing about the damage to the plow. Dad told him "ya best be watch what your doing next time" "i`ll be expecting a new pump as soon as you can find one"

Wasn't too long and we had a shiny new pump with a new mail box bolted on, cemented four foot down just like before. But set back another foot or so from the street. Wink

Great story. My mail box has been taken out 4 or 5 times in the past 2 years. I think it's time to fabricate a monster like some of those shown here today. I can hardly wait til some dumba$$ tries one more time...lol

Great looking smoker! Sorry about the mailbox, but that is a funny story. I'd love to see the looks on the kids faces when the truck got stuck.
