Nice job, but that is a HUGE rig! Russian satellites are going to think it's a mobile ICBM launcher!
A rig like that will feed a monster crowd, and a crowd that big will need A LOT of beer! You are going to Party your a$$ off! _________________ Scott

sorry man. this is as far north as i can get. i cant get more than 6 hrs away from texas or i have to be medicated.
thanks for all the comments, its been a blast to build and even better to cook on. but remember all a guy/gal needs is a fire, a rack and a lid and the lid is optional. smoke on brothers and keep it spicy. |

I've been thinking of converting my offset to a propane burner for the heat source and the log in the tin can method for the smoke. Just having a hard time getting away from the traditional but am thinking in the end it would be for the better. Can you give me your thoughts, pros, cons and what not on the propane fired setup your using. Thanks. _________________ Don't talk smack to me if you can't spell.

i like propane because i like to save trees, lol. really there are no trees where i am at and there were no trees where i was from. so i am used to it.
pros of propane is that you can leave it set for long periods of time, you dont have to be a wood hound spending your time chopping down defensless trees when you could be cookin. many other pros.
there is honor tending a wood fire and all that goes with it. a lot of competition cooks have rules that prohibit propane as a sole use. i am rigged up for propane but i could easily fire it with wood and i am not interested in comp cooking.
when you burn propane you probably need more air intake than you would for a wood fire. burning propane generates water, so dont freak when water comes running from your smoke chamber, it will equilibrate after awhile.
i am rigging up a friends smoker that sounds like it is about the same size as yours. i am going to add some intake capacity and place a 60000 btu burner in it. trial and error, good luck, and send some pics. |
