Not going there again! I guess if I had one of each unit of about the same quality I would pitch in a thought or two, but I have no hands on experience to speak from on this topic. Can't wait to see the show! _________________ --Chris Baker

There is a reason there are so many ways to cook outdoors and so many choices of equipment in each camp. Time, money, and lifestyle are the mitigating factors. I started 20 years ago with a $15.00 Meco then to a high school shop made hi bred pit and now I own a pricey custom offset pit. It was an evolution over time based on the above factors that led me to where I am now. I burn wood logs for BBQ and B&B Lump for grilling. This only suits certain folks and I won't down anyone else's efforts to cook outdoors on what ever they have. So whats left? It all boils down to cheering on your favorite method of cooking like the Cowboys fans cheer on their team. Blindly and faithfully, It's all just fun. But if you have the time, money, determination, and the space. Stick burners RULE BABY!!!! _________________ Zilla

Can I get an amen?? I says....can I get an amen??
P.S. I actually agree with the entire post. I mean, some folks even produce decent Q out of pellet cookers It all comes down to what you're comfortable with and what fits into you're lifestyle. The most important thing is that you're out there doing it...cooking Q, and sharing your passion with you're family friends and neighbors.
P.S.S. Stick burners RULE BABY!!! _________________ Mike

I am a stick burner at heart, but I do use lump charcoal (with wood for flavor) in my small pit. I have never Qed with gas, but that is not because I have anything against gas BBQ. I just feel like the Oil & Gas industry is already getting enough of my hard earned money.
Right now, I use an electric smoker because of the Oklahoma Burn Ban.
No matter what I cook my BBQ on, it still taste better than anything I can buy. The pit is a tool, it's the Q that counts.

Well as a fellow log burner, of course I'm with Mike! ( I want to be like Mike!)
I use a gas log lighter to get er' going, but not for heat. Sure beats fiddlin around trying to get the fire lit!
Nothing wrong with other types, even those pellet burners! I cook great Q on my Weber kettle, as well as on my sister's gas grill when I visit her in Cali.
A good Qer can cook up some great food on just about anything! _________________ BBQMAN

the thing is this: IT DOESNT MATTER, ITS THE COOK NOT THE COOKER, be it a garbage can or a $45,000 dollar rig you can get the same results. that being said
Stick burners rule!!!
it also boils down to comfort do you want to spend sometimes 18+ hours tending a fire and signing legal seperation papers from your wife, in rare occasions it could be a good thing, a naggin' wife could get in the way of your true first love BBQ. or do you want to set it and forget it like the gas/electric models.
oh yea I almost forgot stic burners rule!! |
