Roxy- yeah, I know! The problem is a lot of these workers bring a bag lunch and/or there is a McDoggShizzle, Taco Hell, and Wendy's close by...............
Northsider- thanks!
Completed our second day yesterday with about the same sales figures.
More importantly, people from the rest of the complex, as well as the other business parks are starting to find us.
I only had one Dr. that said "you guys were hard to find", but he came from about a mile away in another area.
Good thing we put a map on the back of the flyers..................
We have tried to boost our presence right from the start with some advertising, which seems too be working. It takes a while for the word to spread.
We had a number of repeats from Tuesday, always a good sign.
I'm also working against the previous "roach coach's" reputation.
Both HR bosses from the parent company stopped by to check on us and thank us for being there.
This should be a two month experiment for us, and the timing is right to allow us to become established before my busy catering season ends in June.
Thanks to all for the well wishes, it's been fun (and tiring). _________________ BBQMAN

The screen is stainless Frosty. A little Greased Lighting at the carwash and they clean up just like new.
If you look closely, they are attached to standard aluminum screen enclosure extrusions faced with the aluminum tread plate like a picture frame.
Not readily removable, but easy enough if damaged....................
I originally had removable screen panels in mind, but the shop that quoted me the job never got back to me (probably because they couldn't roll the material into standard screen frames).
So I did the job myself, which in the end has worked out really well. _________________ BBQMAN

Congrats on the new endeavour. Sounds like a winner to me.
Just a suggestion from an old timer in PA. Maybe you could
throw some BBQ to the local radio station, and have them
broadcast from your spot on the corner. I know if I was
listening to the radio and heard about authentic pulled
pork I would certainly give it a try.
Again congrats on the
new set-up

Boomer, that is a great idea in general.
Not sure what Mike's arrangement is, but usually with these kind of arrangements you have to be very careful about how much and what sort of outside customers you drive to the client's location. The client will become very concerned about liability issues, extra traffic, safety, and how well his building is being served should the "advertising" become too successful. |

Oregon Smoker- I plan on offering ribs after we build up our client base. This will be our second week in this location.
As it stands right now, most of the clients here are a sammie and chips and back-to-work crowd.
Boomer/Jerk Pit- thanks for the ideas.
The parent company was actually OK with us promoting the site to the other business' in the area. In fact, their HR people did e-mail some of the other buildings.
As this is an office park, any advertising (radio) would probably not be as productive as some other spots- we are not on a readily accessible street corner.
There is a similar area not far from where we are now that actually fronts a very busy road, so if this location doesn't pan out the radio spot would be a good idea at that locvation.
I have actually brought food in to some of our well known radio personalities back when we first got stated, so I do have some contacts.
Jim- thanks, I will! _________________ BBQMAN

Let me tell you what my wife told me very early, "Get rid of that Little Tykes easel, it's tacky." In my mind, it matched my Island color scheme and was functional, already available, not being used and the right price. But I got rid of it right away. |
Mine told me the same thing, as well as my web designer..................I'm working on it! |
When I vended (early in life) I got a sign board from my Pepsi rep (free) and got a TON of letters with it....The sign DID say "pepsi" on top but hey.....it was FREE. Check them out in your own area. |

Mike, one of the great things when you are a reputable business with a nice trailer is many customers are comfortable paying you for orders in advance. This allows you to offer advance order/paid slabs of ribs even before you build a sufficient client base. These clients are also likely to check out your website more and become catering clients. |

Hardly, but thanks for asking!
We have held steady in our second week at right around 50 sales at an average of $5.00 per.
It is encouraging that many are repeats, and quite a few are new that "heard your food was great so we had to try it".
A number of folks from the property appraisers office on the other side of the business park drove over and took food back to their office after someone else from there got a pulled pork sammie earlier.
We have two days scheduled for next week, and then I'll be off for the holidays.
We'll see how January goes after the break, and make a decision then.................... _________________ BBQMAN

Mike,
This might be a cheap option. I just picked one up at Big Lots for $29 this week, $39 regular. What I like about it is it is taller than a sandwich board. One side is dry erase and the other chalk board.
It looks better in person and those colored bins are removable. I plan to paint the frame black or yellow, for durability and appearance

Thanks for the idea, I will look into that when I get home!
I'm also thinking of just hanging the white board I have from my over-head awning and calling it a day. It also will provide me from lugging along one extra thing............... _________________ BBQMAN

Yeah check it out.
I'm happy with the easel. When you get rid of all the accessories (bins, bars, rods, trays) it looks very good, and will slide back into the box in between use. I'm not even going to waste any time painting it. |

Great idea, and it folds up nicely too!
