Hi yall,
Good to be here! Been cooking on offset and WSM smokers for a while. Been cooking Q and grilling for about 15 years. Still have lots to learn. Me and my family have a convenience store/deli/restaurant and catering business. We are also the 4 Little Pigs BBQ Team. Can't wait to get some good information on here and possibly contribute where I can. Smile

Hey Big Tom,
I actually lived in Owensboro for about 2 years. Loved it down there. Only thing was I was a long way from family. Did some serious Q down there. I worked for Field Packing Company and we cooked at the BBQ Festival. I cooked about 1000 lbs of butts and briskets and got about 2 hours sleep during that weekend. There are some good places to eat down there.

4LP, I've been here about 7 months, still getting the feel for the place.

We have been real happy with the transition from NE Miss. I haven't quite warmed up to some of this regions styles and choices for BBQ.

Hey BT,
There are 2 or 3 good places. Ole South and old hickory are good. Moonlight is ok. They have quite a variety and their bar is a good choice for trying it all. Nothing like doing your own though. Smile If you need some info about the area let me know. I really want to get back down there. I have some friends there that I haven't seen in a few years.

Unfortunately we haven't had good experiences with either of the first two places mentioned.

Moonlite does alot of the catering for meals & box lunches for the facillity that I work at. I like all their other stuff besides the "Q".

I am a hard sell on restaurant BBQ anyhow. After years of competing and judging championship contest caliber "Q", the mass produced, processed, sauced and hot held version just doesn't do it for me. If I knew I could get fresh product it might be different.

I agree. Mass produced drowned in sauce Q is not my idea of good. When I ate at those places I tried to time it during a peak rush so I could get some fresh not held over product. I'm with you though, once you judge and taste real world championship Q you get spoiled.
