Currently using an Oklahoma Joe's Longhorn or borrowing a homemade trailer unit for large functions. I just scored a 3 by 10 propane tank and a large heavy duty boat trailer. Looking for input. I was thinking a reverse flow, however, I am now leaning toward doing a tunable plate offset with dual stacks on each end. This seems like the best of both worlds. You all seem to have seen or done it all. Please feel free to educate and or confuse me. Thanks Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation

I've never done a reverse flow so I can't help much there.

If you go with a tunable plate type and put stacks on both ends that would lead me to believe that your firebox will run parallel to the pit and down below cooking level.

This would be a good way to go, but a draw back would be loading the firebox if the trailer is very wide. If the trailer is narrow enough this won't be an issue.

At 36" x "96 cooking area you will easily be able to put 2 good sized cooking racks in and possibly a 3rd on top that is a bit smaller in depth. This size pit could also hold a whole hog of medium size!

One suggestion I have is to draw it up, think on it a few days and then draw it up again with the new ideas you have. Ponder the drawing a few more days and then get busy with the torch and welder.

Have you calculated your needs for exhaust, air intake, and heat openings? There is a great Excel spreadsheet for this at the top of this page in one of the stickys.

Good luck and keep us posted on the progress.
