Hi,

On Oct. 30th a BBQ joint in South Bend, Indiana will be the focus of Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares.

I interviewed the owner of the restaurant and it seemed like it was an interesting experience.

It should make for some fun watching for BBQ fans.

I believe that it is on at 9pm on Fox.

Eric

thanks for that info. I will be back in the States just in time to watch it.
Have you by chance seen the UK version? He chews em up & spits them out far more than the US one. Good stuff.

Gordon only chews them up when he runs into chefs that dont want to listen to what hes got to say and I think that was more common in the UK than over here. Seems to be the owners of the restaurants that he is butting heads with on this side of the pond.

I got to say I love the show.. My favorite one is from the US with the east Indian owner.. The scene with the roaches in the freezer makes my skin crawl.

Roxy,

There were some free episodes and also some recipes from Gordon on the iTunes Store. Been some time since I checked, so I'm not sure if they still exist, but worth a look.

The roaches in the freezer episode was a classic!

Reality based TV series which aims to help failing restaurants. Gordon is trademarked for tough-talking and inspirational tough love.

The UK episodes are on regularly on BBC America. Thursdays in particular they show two episodes.

I hate the Hell's Kitchen show (nothing interesting to me about watching a guy berate underqualified chefs), but the UK and US versions of Kitchen Nightmares is very good television. It reveals what a very good manager Ramsey is and what an inventive business mind he posesses. I'm looking forward to seeing what he has to say about a struggling 'cue joint.

Yes the owners were what made that a sad situation. One thing I did notice though was that it said BBQ but I didn't see a smoker. All I saw was someone throwing sauced ribs on a grill. The same you can get at any chain restaurant. Sorry to me if theres no smoke (thin blue) it ain't real BBQ.

Thanks Moteric for reminding me about the show.

I love the Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmare show and watch it on local stations and on the BBC.
I agree with Poppa on Hell's kithchen it is hard for me to watch people get verbally beat up all the time. I think the only reason I watch it is because it was pretty much the same with the chefs at Culinary School
some old heads didn't think woman's place was in the kitchen and some
of them believed screaming and belittling got their point across better.
Skidder also made a good point where was the smoke? Everytime it showed the outside of the place I didn't see any smoke or any chimneys
for that matter.
No doubt Ramsey is a great chef and has a great business mind. His idea with the hambuger was a great idea. But no matter how great the burger is or how good it looks if you don't have anybody that can cook it to different degrees of doneness it will turn around and bite you in the arse which it did. I think the cooks were pretty used to opening frozen
food and frying it, not allot of experience with fresh or made to order.
I was curious how they went and won 1st place in the BBQ sauce
category and had sauce bottled and all ready.
Ahhhhhhhh the wonders of TV

Roxy can you imagine how great those ribs would have been
with a certain someones Mustard Sauce on them?

Thanks Boomer

I only saw some of it (c'mon, The Office and 30 Rock were on!). From what I saw, they were working under the NE definition of BBQ...grilled food. Nothing wrong with that, but it's not what I think of when I think of BBQ.

Boomer:

Just imagine if Ramsey suggested they get a smoker and start selling real BBQ.. Now that would be something. I know that BBQ is a growing past time in the kingdom of U.K. thanks to good folks like Ian from ProBBQ so there is no reason a Brit cant know the difference between grilling and Q.

I think your right about the mustard sauce. It is becoming my favorite rib glaze.

Roxy

You are so right. As thorough as Gordon Ramsey is you
think he would have noticed the same things that were said
here on this post. No smoke not real BBQ, throwing sauce
on ribs and calling it BBQ. I wonder with them boys in the
kitchen if they were boiled? I wouldn't doubt it after the
hamburger disaster. At worse he could have just taken the
BBQ letters off the sign outside.
Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

And if that sauce won first place can you imagine what
that mustard sauce from Oro Station, Ontario, Canada
would DO. Gosh they would walk across Lake Simcoe
to get some.

Hope gary doesn't mind a link to the forum, but here it is:

http://www.barbecuenews.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=17956

But I wouldn't waste your time. No one has asked him ABOUT his bbq, and that it's grilled and covered in sauce.

I never saw a smoker on the show, did anyone?

Have a read, here's an interview with him:

Yeah read the interview when he asks about the smoker. How vague could he be. If you asked me the gas grill in the kitchen is the smoker from what I saw. Maybe I'm wrong but I did see sauced ribs get thrown on the grill. I hope I am wrong.
