Last time I poked my head in the KMart on Clearview in the New Orleans/ River Ridge area, they had a number of the BBQ Pro smokers like Alien used, but they were clustered with the swimming pool and hot tub supplies area since halloween (and now undoubtably Christmas) seasonal items were set up in the floor space grills and such occupied during the summer. It was the same with the KMart in Gonzales, LA last time I poked my head in there, again, before Halloween.
Do you have a trip to The Big Easy in your plans any time soon?
Shipping these KMart model smokers without some sort of 'free ship to store' option would quickly favor just buying the BBQ Pro Deluxe dome smoker at Sears to start with. However, that model disappeared from the Sears web site this week - so no way to use the current Sears Moonlight Madness sale for an extra discount on-line for in-store pickup. My web links in earlier posts turn up nothing now as well. Curious. |
Thanks Necron! I looked all over the entire store, every nook & cranny but came out empty handed! Maybe I will check in one more Kmart close by but I am not gettin my hopes up.
I don't have any plans to visit "The Big Easy" any time in the near or distant future since my company has banned all travel unless absolutely necessary! We do have a couple offices there but it would be highly unlikely that I would be sent to visit them.
Funny you mentioned the BBQ Pro Deluxe dome smoker at Sears because I think I might pickup a couple of those instead. I have been eyeballin those for a while now. I know they still have those at Sears because my mother was doin her rounds and said she saw about 4 or 5 of them last time she was in there. You really can't beat $24.00 or $12.00 though for the ones like Alien got that's for sure! _________________ The Original - Triple Barrel Smoker

Yeah, you just can't apply any on-line only type discounts on an item that isn't on the Sear's web site if it's disappeared there. Earlier this year, you could pick up the BBQ Pro Deluxe model for $58.99 on-line, and no shipping charges with the "Store Pickup" option.

At $20 each for the KMart model, Alien has close to, if not more $$$ than that invested in his creation in this thread, if you consider costs for the other materials if you went out & bought them, and didn't have them laying around already. However, at $12 each, cloning Alien's kinda-clone has a cost advantage, if you can find the smokers at Kmart locally. _________________ Let's hope SoEzzy can ditch his heavy hand on photos in 2016!

Turkey Fryer Conversion! Now that's got to be the most unique use for these smokers I've run across!
Jok3r-X,
I was at the Gonzales, LA KMart this week, and these are all gone, so probably none left in this area. If you had a trip to this area in your future, I would have been happy to pick up a few for you and put them in the garage until you arrived.

This thing rocked as a turkey fryer. Heated up in just minutes and was not effected by the wind. Later on during Pit Master University I cooked a few pies on it just for fun. _________________ https://www.linkedin.com/in/michaeloberry

Thanks necron for the kind offer! I really appreciate that you would be willing to do something like that for nearly a complete stranger! Unfortunately I won't be goin anywhere for a while due to the economy and all that crap! I will be lucky to just keep my job through all this! I have enough smokers anyway I guess, but the more I get the more I want lol. I hope next year is better for all of us than this year has been! You guys enjoy your BBQ Pro's and post pics, that will be good enough for me! _________________ The Original - Triple Barrel Smoker

Hey Alien, have you ever thought of building a UFO shaped smoker\cooker? I have some wild ideas of how to make one, I just need to draw it in a CAD drawing. _________________ The Original - Triple Barrel Smoker

On the UFO smoker..... yes I have.
Well guys, I took this over to my daughters house for Christmas dinner and it cooked great. I cooked two hams, a duck, and blueberry pie. The nicest thing about this cooker is the small amount of gas needed to keep the thing humming along at an even temp. I swapped the cast iron griddle out that was holding my wood chunks for a small, #2 cast iron fry pan. It seems to work better and holds the chips in a more uniform fashion. Make sure you cover the pan with foil to keep it from catching on fire. _________________ https://www.linkedin.com/in/michaeloberry |

Hey, I built one of the about 18 years ago! El Cheapo B. with a 160 K burner. Still have it and use it for the Tday turkey every year!
The reason for the build. We tipped to many beers at that point in life to make it all night for low and slow!

I know what you mean. I was really happy considering the cost of the unit and the ease of the conversion. I really does take just a little fuel to keep this baby going. I also use it to heat my discada (plow disk wok) for stir frying and the such. I discovered that a 22 inch cheap grill lid fits the Discada and makes for a good covered fry pan.
