Ring

A buddy just called me up with some new pork and turkey prices.
I was just wondering what the members thought of the numbers.

All these prices are by the case to get the so-called deal,

Babybacks 20-23 in a case $1.48 lb
Shoulders bone-in 4 in a case 1.07 lb
Whole Loins 4 in a case 1.40 lb

Turkey

Wings 99 cents LB
Drums 99 cents Lb
Fresh turkey 189 Lb

Thanks for your help

Boomer

I can only comment on the shoulder price, it sounds more than fair to me, don't know about the others.

Those prices would be excellent around here, especially the baby backs. Shocked

I agree, you better snatch up a bunch of them.
That would be a really good price for spare ribs here.

those pork prices are great for around here. We can pay up to 4.99 per pound for baby backs some times.

Fatrat

Thanks I have two buddies one in the pork trade and one
in the turkey trade. He says the pork are butchered 6 days
a week and if I want something just come in the morning after
they are done. Same with the Turkeys. The place is about 50
miles north of me, I guess if I get enough buddies to buy
it would certainly be worth it according to what you just
told me about BB prices.

Question: Fatrat are babybacks still good quality
after freezing them?
Or would you stay away from freezing

Thanks Boomer

Those look like good prices, but...

The baby back prices look to be too good. Based on the description those ribs don't appear to be the typical 2-1/4 & down back ribs. My experience with them is you will get around 15 racks per 30# case. Those that you have been offered may be some of the Danish ribs which do average around 1# per rack and may be in a downsized case weighing ~24#.

Just my thoughts though.

Big Tom

Thanks for looking out for a fellow ringer.
Maybe your right about the BB. He told me
that there is usually 20-23 racks in a 25-30-lb case.

Not familiar with Danish ribs BT, am I looking at a generic
product being passed off as an original.

thanks again

I prefer BB fresh, but I have done frozen that have come out very nice. I am used to BB being about 2 to 3.5 pounds a slab, and have a butcher near that will make a special cut leaving the tenderloin on, those are about 15 pounds a slab, but so damned good that it's almmost worth the $65 dollar a slab price...lol
