Make it a charitable donation and get a receipt signed etc, (all legal and above board).

Then write it off on your taxes!

You've probably already done your limit for the year, but this might give you a write off you can use for some of the equipment purchases that you did make, check with your accountant on the right moves to make.

I ask for a 50% up front non refundable fee. THat holds the date for you and if the person changes their mind or oopsies its on their dime. It doesnt help you with a nonpaying weekend but at least it covers your meat you bought.

I cant believe you get $10.00 for a sandwich platter, and then you ask for gratuity, sounds like your kind of a shiester, if your getting that kind of money for a sandwich and chips, you do not need or deserve a gratuity.

In his part of the country that seems to be the going rate. He's even posted examples of his competition having higher prices than him. I think it's crazy also, but things on the West Coast are more expensive than I'm used to.

Apparently his customers don't have an issue with it, so why should you?

I charge $9.95 for a pork plate: 5oz pulled pork, 2 4oz sides, and a roll or bun I was charging $8.95, but recently bumped it up $1. A sandwich, chips, and soda are $7.95.

Ummmmm, good grief Marv!

SoEzzy has an awesome idea here! Very Happy

Dang Marv, you and I have been called everything but late to dinner on occasion.

But "Shiester" just doesn't come to mind at all! Rolling Eyes Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

I'm not sure what the prices are in Pueblo, but I'm constantly blown away by the cost of living on the West Coast.

And, as noted, that does drive prices..........................

Sorry to hear this about this one, particularly since it's the end of your season! Mad

If you like, I'll share some of the KY that's in the mail from my last big tipper client! Razz

The client agreeded on a price. I dont know why anyone would do name calling cause he got a job at a good price, the custmer could have shopped around prior to agreeing on a price.

Gotta' tell you, that was a low way to introduce yourself my friend.

Check Amazon.com for a used copy of How to Win Friends and Influence People. That's my tip to you, regardless of whether you need it or have earned it. Very Happy

I think that you are going to love your iphone...they are really neat little devices...

you can keep all of your calendar stuff in the phone and then sync it with your calendar at home automatically...I am sure that would come in handy in your line of work. plus GPS navigation and internet access...

Wow! Shocked $12.00 here easy! Okay, so I don't ask for gratuity, but if I don't get it, either, I didn't do as good as a job or they were just A$$ holes that I don't want to deal with them again. That's the risk I take.

To the original problem, buying stock without a deposit. This for me is a basic part of a catering contract. I would recommend you start insuring all your customers sign that basic contract, there are many posted everywhere, and not spend a dime till that deposit is in hand. Just good business. Till you have the funds, don't book the event or buy any supplies.

Look, I am not trying to start a fight here, I am not bad mouthing Marv, the word is just what I would feel like if I charged that much, and then charged a gratuity. You asked I will tell, I get $6.50 for sandwich and 2 sides, and I make good money at that price so I feel good about it, and that is for a 50 person or less, If the people count goes up the price here actually goes down, for 350 that would cost around 5.50 with no gratuity. I feel that if you are going to get a gratuity, it should be there decision, not part of the bill. Sorry Marv for the word that I used there was no PUN intended.
