Here's my recipe for BBQ beans, by request. If you make them, please let me know what you think. I'm sure there alot of similar recipes out there, but everyone seems to always rave about these.

Ingredients:

2 cans Showboat pork & beans (cheap plain beans)
1 can Ranch style beans (I use a brand called Ranch Style)
8 pieces Petit Jean Bacon (is there any other kind?)
1 medium Vidalia onion, about 1 1/2 cups diced
4 TBSP Brer Rabbit molasses
1 TBSP prepared yellow mustard
1/4 cup (packed) light brown sugar
3 TBSP BBQ sauce (I used Rendesvous)
Cavender's Greek seasoning
2 cups water
A big smoky fire!
2"X13"X9" foil pan (you will need a pizza pan or such to support it for transport to the smoker), or pyrex or metal pan.

Your smoker grate will have to be level so the beans don't run out of the pan.

Slowly cook bacon to chewy done. While you are doing this, take a very large bowl and dump the beans in. Drain bacon on paper towel, leaving all fat in the skillet. Saute the onion, with a light sprinkling of brown sugar and Cavender's. Just cook the onions long enough to break them a bit, a couple minutes. While the onions are cooking, coarsely chop the bacon, and dump it in the beans.

Dump the cooked onions and all the grease in the beans. Add everything else but the water, and add 1/2 tsp Cavender's. Stir well. Add 2 cups water, and stir again.

Pour into 13"X9" pan. This mixture will be very soupy, and will just about fill this size pan. The mixture will cook down and be more manageable when done. Transport to smoker and place near the firebox. You want the beans to cook at about 350 or so, just like in an oven.

Smoke for a couple hours, stirring in the top smoky layer and scraping the sides every so often, and turning the pan if necessary to prevent scortching on one side. The time will depend on how hot the fire is, etc. I just cook them down until they are the consistency that I like, and not total mush.

That's it!
