I have a Yoder Smoker on order. It should be off the assembly line this week and I should be able to pick it up next week.

I'll echo what some others have stated. I would personally research a bit more. Klose obviously makes quality stuff. However, the price tag comes with that as well...I would at least look at some other companies. I have a Lonestar and I love it. Click my link. It would be hard to beat the quality. I also paid a fraction of what I would have with klose or gator (who also does great work)

Fact is, it's going to be different for everyone but I urge you to at least explore.

Tom has EXCELLENT customer service so give him a ring or send him an email.

I own a Yoder "Wichita" and It is a very, very easy to maintain 250 or 275 deg while cookin some Butts or Ribs. I pre-heat it to 300 then throw on the meat cause thats what Joe (of Yoder Smokers) recommended. It is made for longevity since it's made of 1/4" steel all the way around. I have the counter balanced lid and the upper rack version and it put the weight of the smoker at around 600 lbs. Here are the pics of the maiden voyage. I used Cowboy Lump and Mulberry for the smoke. Needless to say, I made the wife and the neighbors very happy with the sammiches. I was an electric Brinkman and terra cotta smoker till the wife gave me a green light to buy the Yoder and it produced so much better results than the electric one I used in the past. So far it's been the best thing to me since sliced bread. I was also informed from Joe that he was one of the founding members of the original Oklahoma Joe and then moved on to build his own. After seeing the quality of all his different smokers I bought mine the next day since I left my trailer at home. I also have to give kudos to Roxies Mustard Sauce... delicious!

That is exactly like a HORIZON, close to a RD special....I think that Horizon and Joe are related in the past somewhere if I remember correctly...

What kind of pit are you looking for??? Backyard or mobile...What kind of price range? Sorry if I missed these things but not sure if you're looking for a small pit or a large.

I know mattycamp has a wicked good deal on his trailered unit. Almost $2,000 less and might as well be new. Although, I haven't seen him on the board in awhile. I dropped him a PM a few days ago but no word

http://www.thesmokering.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21459

Also, as stated above, shipping anything these days is expensive however, when I got my pit, Tom worked with me on delivery and we just kindof went of his schedule/route...Those are things to also figure into a purchase of this size. Customer service goes a long way and him and steve did so to earn my business. Not only are a few companies known for customer service but several of them are on here. I don't own a DPP but Travis is on here and not only does he constantly answer questions but he answers them to people building their own CLONES. I mean, how cool is that! Tom from Lonestar is on here. For me being in St. Louis and not being close to a single pit builder, it was nice to be able to get ahold of these people so easily. Actually, looking back on your responses, Travis already replied giving you some different options to get a smoker there for less.

I think when you get into the Klose, Lonestar, Gator you're really in a different league but the price tag also changes. If you're looking a trailer mounted unit, I would definately look at the ones listed above because I just looked at Yoder's pricing and I personally would go after the reputation for something that expensive. Based on my research and what others have mentioned, I think Lonestar offers the biggest bang for your buck and as I said, I don't know how much of a cleaner pit you could make. Or, I'd take a look at matty camps.

Also, for the record, I'd look at the DPP's also...NOTHING but great reviews.

I don't want to discourage you from any pit builder (except smokey joe) Just speaking from my personal experience.

And no, I'm not sponsored by lonestar or anyone else. I'm not cool enough like Roxy Laughing

Good luck and sorry for such a long reply Very Happy

It's a 20x48 pipe smoker. This will be my first, so I can't wait until it gets here. If I was rich I'd take a week off just to break her in right. I still can't make up my mind on what to cook first.

Congrats!

Are you new to smoking in general? If so, I'd start off with something like a pork butt. Can handle higher temps and spikes.

I'd say chicken but it can be oversmoked pretty easily and you may want to get used to it first.

Once again, congrats!

You'll love it, I wish I had one on my back porch...

Yeah, that looks a lot like my Horizon as well. I think their pricing is also identical to Horizon.

I talked to the guy at Yoder and he was really cool. Sent me pics right away. I bought a Horizon because that was what was available in Iowa - but would have been happy with a Yoder.
