Any of y'all going to visit or cook at the second half of Smoke on the Water in Hot Springs? http://www.smokeonthewaterbbq.com/Home.html

I'm in HS's most weekends and am going to drop by for the festivities.

There's a couple of teams from the BBQ-Brethren who are competing.

Just lookin' to find out who might be there.

Yes, I'll be there! Wish I could have cooked at the Pine Bluff cookoff. Sad

Great,

There's a guy from the National BBQ News forum competing and a couple of teams who hang on the BBQ-Brethren forum who are competing too.

i judged at the pine bluff event, and the same folks are coordinatin' the judgin' at hot springs. they know what they're doin', and it was the most fun i've had at any event i've been to. any CBJ's headed there will be treated right. i talked to several competitors after it was over, and none of them had any complaints.

You didn't talk to the group I talked to. There were a LOT of discussions after the score sheets got handed out. For a 100% CBJ contest, there were huge variations in the scores at the same table.

Hey, that's KCBS.

I'll be there.

Anyone stop by Smokin Okies and say you saw us on the SR.

it was ALMOST 100% CBJ's, some judges that were expected to be there didn't show, and a few locals were tabbed to fill the seats. not too many, but i did sit next to a 'friend of a friend.' that's happened at every event i've ever j udged. to her credit, she didn't listen to a couple of CBJ idiots at our table that had their own ideas about scoring, in spite of the rules. she listened to the mandatory instructions and from what i could see, she followed the spirit of the rules very well. too bad, but she'll probably never judge another event. i won't either, it's been a lot of fun, but i've found other things to do with my weekends.

Joe, same here--this was my very first contest-what a rush! I did meet Russ and he was set up just next to me-well sort of caddycorner. I finished around the middle of the pack overall. My highest finish was a 22nd in brisket- disappointed but not the least discouraged-man was there some great competition at this event. Wish I could have had time to learn some tips from you guys-kinda had my hands full! I had a great time-looking forward to the big event in Little Rock March 13-14 2009. I will post pics of my boxes later and would welcome frank scrutiny/comments.

Hi all. Kinda late for an early riser and the Smirnoff's been good tanite.Smile

crabclaw, I didn't git 'round much on Friday and on Saturday the parkin police didn't want me to park up front. Had to play the "bringin supplies to the team" line and forgot my cheat sheet of team names. Thus I missed a few folks. Hope we meet next time.

Mike, next year one of the legs of the AR BBQ Championship crown will be held at the Klinton Liberry (sic) in March. Not sure from the talk if this will replace the PineBluff or if it will be another contest.

This contest was one of the finest (and best paying) in the US. I was Totally taken back by the Quality and Quantity of the top names in Que! 9 out of the top 10 teams for the year in KCBS were there. Kinda of a local Jack or AM Royal in Hot Springs AR.

First time on the Internet since the contest.

We had a LOT of fun, good to meet some of the Ringers. I didn't know Joe was behind me until too late (or I'd of been happy to pass out samples).

We missed RGC by .5722 (and about $2700 because of it); we had 664.5706. 170.857 in ribs; 170.2856 in pork, 163.9998 in brisket. For you folks interested, any ONE judge changing ANY score would have been a big deal for us

But the organizer said about 40 of the top 50 teams were there and 3rd is AWFULLY FINE! fun when the Big Dog teams come up to you or call you with congrats for beating them and getting 3 calls.

Did real good in pork with the 3rd in ribs (missed 2nd by .0004) and a 5th in pork (missed 2nd by .9)

so we'll be signing up for the March event, we like those Arkansas contests (got a 11th in ribs and 3rd in pork at Pine Bluff)

See 'yall there.

Not yet. It's listed as 3/13 & 3/14 on the KCBS contest site and the event site doesn't have any info yet.

www.smokeonthewaterbbq.com

We always have fun with any teams around us, that's how we first met AllSmoke (Mike). Samples and beers on me in March.

Does anyone have an explanation as to how the cookoff in March can be listed as an invitational and still be sanctioned by KCBS? The way I read thier ad in the Bullsheet you must have won aGC within the last 3 years to qualify to cookin in it.
There might be some changes since the BS was printed and if so would someone post that.
