So I will be inthe market for one or the other. What do you all think? Does the pro one need any mods? I know on the wsm it is still recommed to get a bigger water pan I beleive. I jst cant decide which one. I love my offset. Just looking to make those overnight cooks easier. Thanks for any replies and help. This will be x-mass present if I can wait that long. DOnt want to tell the wifey to get the wrong one. Happy Labor Day. Very Happy

I am not trying to get into the whole buy american dont buy this or that. I guess it would be like which one is more ready out of the box besides basic set up and assembly.

I think we can discuss this without it being ugly.

Both of these cookers are ready "right out of the box." I am a ProQ guy myself, but the WSM is a fantastic cooker. I can say that I have not experienced any of the problems that a few people have had with the ProQ cookers. And I own a Frontier and Excel 20. They have worked very well for me.

It really just depends on if you think the added featues of the ProQs are something you need and worth the added $$$ if you're thinking about the E20.

Both of the company's customer service is excellent. You can't go wrong either way.

I love the pro q ability to stack. Just pop it off to get to the level you need to work on. THanks Doc. I agree and hope this wont turn ugly. I love the set and forget it for my butts. Using the offset for ribs and chicken and you know the usual ABT'S.

Since you already have an off set, I would wait for the 22 1/2" WSM.

I have a WSM and frankly can not see how I could be more satisfied. It works great and I like the customer service at Weber.

The Pro-Q looks like a great unit too and I probably would not hesitate to jump on one of them if the right opertunity and price presented.

I dont think you can go wrong with either but I know how well the WSM works and if I was recomending based on expierience it would be the WSM.

my vote would be:

ProQ excel20+staccker or wait for the WSM 22.5.

Just a matter of time before ProQ makes a 22.5 WSM stack!

The pro q is already at 22.5 right. Which would make me lean that way. I do like the fact they found a problem and fixed right away. I will keep researching some. Thanks for the input. If anyone else wants to chime in I will be checking back tommorow. Thanks

Well for me, I own a frontier model, I just crushed one of the levels because I am sick of it not going together smothly, I always have to fight it to get the clips lined up. So I am done with that model. If you do get one make sure it is the Bigger and stronger model. I like the features of it. But the cheaper model is just not worth it. Plus it runs 50 degrees different from top to bottom with a Guru attached.

Now the WSM, I love and is stable from top to bottom. within 5 degrees . Have no troubles with getting the Lid on. The only thing I do not like is having to move one grate off to get to the bottom one. But all in all My money is on this unit.

good luck on your purchase, Hope you have many a good cooks on witchever one you decide.

Go with the original. Go with Weber. It's a great product backed by a great company.

ProQ E20 is 20 inches, not 22 1/2. The latter is for WSM prototype that others have posted will be available for 2009.

Correct. Pretty soon they'll just slap a dome lid on a drum.

No matter which one you get you will not be disappointed. Each one has its + and -. Both will cook about the same with little effort. I have both and I would buy both again. I would be more inclined to buy the excel 20 first just because of the extra features allready included.
