I guess the people of the Gulf Coast have nothing to worry about with this Hurricane since President Bush cancelled his RNC visit to come here to over see his flunkies I mean FEMA Reps... I really hope that the people of New Orleans are evacuating safely. It looks like they are taking this one more seriously than Katrina.

I hear you!!

I used to live in Norfolk VA when going to college. We had a a hurricane come through - it was only a cat 3, and cat 2 by the time it got to us. Even though it was small lot's of damage was done. We had no power for over a week. We were dumb college kids and thought it would be fun to stay and party during the storm.

I don't even want to imagine what a big storm is like.

Well, look at it this way - can FEMA possibly do any worse this time around, now that that jackass horse-show guy (I think his name was Michael Brown..?) is no longer running FEMA.

I'll never forget one fact that came to light about that fool in the aftermath of Katrina. It was all over the news. During the first few days after Katrina went through, when the man's PDA was loading up with email from on-site people who were describing how catastrophic the devastation was, and how unprepared the emergency response was, and how looting and the occasional gunfight were going on, do you remember what Brown's response was?

"Thanks for the update. Anything I need to 'tweak" from here?"

Good God, I'll never forget that as long as I live. The man should've been taken out and shot. Or maybe disemboweled with the same silver spoon that he had in his mouth his whole life.

Enough ranting - as a survivor of many 'canes, my heart's going out to everybody in the path of this monster. Keeping my fingers and toes crossed for ya..hang in there!

My family and I learned don't depend on anyone else, especially the Government.
Rita came through and we was without power for 4 weeks..
Only thing you can do is pray and prepare for the worse..
as long as my family is taken care of and evacuated I can survive...My town is like a ghost town, everything is closed and everyone is gone..if you need something basically it is too late..
I dont think it will be a direct hit on Texas, but we will get something out of it...But if you are familiar with Hurricanes all it takes is a little wobble one way, and it is headed right at you..

I'm liking what I'm seeing - that hurricane has picked up movement speed, which is always a good thing, because the faster it moves, the weaker it gets. The experts were saying yesterday that this thing would be Category 5, but now, winds are at 115..which is Category 3.

If this trend continues, wind damage will be a negligible factor.

So now..all things remaining constant..the question is, what water levels will we see for New Orleans and other places with low elevation.

I'm trying to be optimistic (yet not unrealistically so) for you folks. Keep those body parts crossed for luck...I know I am!
