Will be travelling to the Paducah area of Kentucky (from Ontario, Canada) in early October. Looking to find a great feed of real deal ribs. Willing to drive an hour or two to get them if they are worth the effort. Memphis a bit to far or we'd go back to Corky's. Any other suggestions? Thnx.

Ditto on Patti's. Not que but a good place to eat. Homemade bread cooked in a flower pot. No dirt. There is a good bbq joint near the mall but I forgot the name of it. Anyone know the place? _________________ Scooter

Will you be coming through Elizabethtown KY on your way to Paducah on I65 from Louisville? If so then I imagine you will be getting on the western KY parkway in Elizabethtown to Paducah.
If you are going that way I recommend getting off the main highway in Elizabethtown and traveling about 40 miles to Campbellsville KY to eat at The Smoke Pit Barbecue. I wrote a review and took some photos on my blog. You can see photos and review at http://bbqhub.com/2008/06/30/the-smoke-pit-bbq-campbellsville-ky/
Also, you mentioned Corky's in Memphis. Bypass Corky's and go to Interstate Barbecue just off of I40 on the south side of Memphis. Jim Neely is a master at barbecue. Photos and review here: http://bbqhub.com/2007/12/14/interstate-bbq-in-memphis-tn-is-the-best/
For a list of bbq restaurants across the country visit www.bbq-festivals.com .... there is also extensive listing of bbq festivals and cook offs that you can plan your trip around.
Good luck on your quest............take lots of photos and write some reviews............ cheers............eric _________________ Eric Dytzel

Thnx a lot bbq_festival_man for the insight. Unfortunately campbellsville is a little too far out of the way. We used the links you provided to find some of the restaurants and Knoth's or Brothers BBQ are pretty close to where we are going to be. Will do a little more research and may try one of these 2. May even call them prior to leaving and see what they have cookin' while we're there. Thnx again and will let you know how it goes.

Knoths is really good for traditional pulled pork. He has some great homemade bbq sauce. The hot one is nice and spicey. It comes in an unlabled bottle..... haha. His smoker is out back has lots of good wood burning.
Brothers BBQ is here in the town that I live in. It is pretty good as well. They are a small restaurant and do a lot of catering.
Of the two I would pick Knoths...........
There is another place about 50 miles from where Brothers is located called Moonlite BBQ..... It is well known in this part of the country and specializes in Kentucky mutton, pulled pork and ribs........... great place in Owensboro KY........ would be worth the trip...... they have a website at http://www.moonlite.com/
Good luck on your search and quest for bbq _________________ Eric Dytzel

Thnx again. We already sniffed out the Moonlite. It isn't real far away and we are pretty well looking for the best ribs. Not to say we might not sample the other wares, but we only have one shot at this right now. So if ribs are the ticket you suggest the Moonlite in that region? Thnx a lot again....

If you are going for ribs I would say wait until Memphis. Kentuck is mutton and pulled pork country.......at least west Kentucky is. Out of the three I talked about I would hit Knoths ...... good luck and enjoy.... be sure to bring the rolaids.....haha........ _________________ Eric Dytzel

Well, we made it to the Paducah area and started hunting out the ribs. We went to Knoth's and unfortunately they do not do ribs. Only pork shoulders and brisket. Had a feed of both and they were both REALLY good. Their milk shakes are exceptional too. The place is rather "rustic" inside, but was pretty neat. The regular and hot sauces were distinctive to what we've had in the past, but were very good. They were not labeled either as stated earlier:) Asked around and nobody had any real suggestions so hit the yellow pages and found Backwoods Barbecue in Paducah. They had 2 locations so took a drive past and there was the distinct smell of smoke in the air. Went in and ordered up the ribs and they were AWESOME to say the least. Staff were really helpful, gladly answered all our questions, and were tickled pink we were Canadian. Treated us really well. They also had pulled pork, chicken, beef, and deserts that looked awesome as well. The ribs were what we were after and left with a huge grin on our faces. Thnx again to everyone for the help.

Old Hickory BBQ in Owensboro is very good. Lots of the locals say the meat is better than Moonlight. Moonlight puts out a good spread and is worth stopping by though. Great deal for the money.
