With a "GAY" name like yours "Saucy Lads" I wish you would quit replying.

Notice I had no need to ask you the same question.....

"Holy Smoke"

Yes, I would say we are a jovial bunch, we usually have a good time.

Nice try, but this is actually all you said:

Smokin Okie, I've been smoking Q for 20 years so theres been lots of practice for sure, am I over analyzing it I have no idea i've never
competed, I know for sure 'll have fun because I like doing it obviously or I wouldnt do it for 20 years. Maybe what sets me apart from you is I care about winning, I'm not entering to finish in the top 10, I'm copmpeting to win whether it's my first comp or my 50th the goal will be the same to become Grand Champion period. I amart enough to know I won;t win every time out and maybe never but I can guarantee you that won;t change my goals.

You obviously have no earthly idea about his desire to win, or anything else about the man.

What is interesting about not wanting to reply to your obvious barbs....maybe he thinks you're just not worth a response??

Here's what I know.....he has done 4 KCBS contests this year. In pork, he's placed 1st(Claremore, 49 teams), 3rd(Pine Bluff, 65 of some of the best teams in the country), and 3rd(Enid, 31 teams). The only contest he did this year where he didn't finish top 10 in Pork was Stillwater, where he placed 12th out of 47 teams.

The funny thing is you probably pissed off one of the best pork cookers around, certainly that posts on this forum. IMO, he's the one guy here that could, and probably would, have helped you more than most...and you fired off and gave him absolutely no reason to try and help you.

.....cheers!

The only thing more delicious than SmokinOkie's pork is the irony of this thread.

Do they have an emoticon for sticking your foot in your mouth??

Seriously though, It all depends on the meat. The feel of it. Also wrapping and not wrapped will react differently from resting. Also seasoning effects the bark and the rest. So there is so much more to it than a yes or no question.

IMO-- you can get

80% of what you need to be competative on the forums
20% from actually being at a comp
10% depends on the table you land on
_____
110% = Balls to the Walls

Oh and the clock seems to speed up between 11:55a.m to 1:35p.m., Can't seem to figure out why though.

Unless your name is Tuffy, Johny, Rod

Get out the Popcorn Boys and Girls the funs back!!! Grab a beer before you start reading, it's a long one.

I'm sorry, Smoke, what's wrong with suggesting you just get out and cook? You seem to have your panties in a bunch of a great suggestion.

You took the thread in your response, so the least I can do is have some fun responding.

The following is said as my OPINION. If you don't like it, don't read it. But since you bring up some interesting comments, the least I can do is give you your answers.

Trust me (oh wait, you'll take that wrong) just compete and you'll get bit by the bug and you won't have time on the weekends because you'll be out competing.

Geez, dude, chill!

Hey "BLOWINSMOKE", now that was funny my freind ....You must be "A MAN" and "40" at that Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

"Holy Smoke"

I didn't reply because I work for a living and don't live in this forum (just now saw it) and I was trying to decide if I should stoop to your level...

...well stooping I will go....

And I have a family and friends that I spend time with, not in front of the PC.

Get out on the circuit and cook and we'll see if all your time on the web is worth it.

You still have to cook. And for someone who has 20 years of experience you ask lots of questions a 20 year cook should know. But since you've never explained your 20 years I don't know what that means? Own a grill for 20 years? boil ribs on a stove? cook brisket in an oven?

Quote:
PS Have you ever won a sanctioned event?

Nope, never said I did, and the group knows it and I've never said otherwise, but YOU must be keeping score, get how's my standings doing?

I won a non sanctioned and KCBS awarded me one because of their error, but I've won multiple places in every category, and over 60 top ten finishes in 3 years (estimate, I don't have a full count, I just see the ribbons and trophies in the room) and enough cash in the bank to pay for competing each week and tons of friends and more memories than I can share.

If GC is your only standard for being able to comment in the thread, most people here wouldn't qualify. Yeah, called me out on that one, yeah, got me there.

But you want to call MY competition credentials in question.

Great. Put up or shut up. Until you've competed and won more than I have, you don't have S*(T to say about my credentials. I share here because when I learned it, it was 1 on 1 with some of the top cooks out there, not in the internet. But I've shared info here to help and you're the first one to call my credentials in question. Guess that says a lot about me and more about you.

I think my sharing of information stands on it's own, to which you've benefited a lot. Come down to a contest and we'll do it one on one.

I got a better idea. Since GC seems to be your bone with me, do this. Go through your notes and everywhere I made a suggestion, comment or shared information, delete it. Obviously because I haven't won a GC officially and that's you standard, my information is worthless. But you won't, you'll see I've shared lots of information to help.

Guess that's why I get emails and PM's from people in here asking me for help, because I haven't won a GC.

You took the message all wrong and that's YOUR problem, I stated my Opinion.

For reference I'd say the same thing to anyone who just talks about competing and doesn't do it. Why wait for next year. Get out there, have some fun, meet some teams and you'll have a great time.

As Nike says... Just do it!

The problem is you can only do so much asking and just get out and compete. You'll learn more in one contest than a year looking from the sidelines.

You sure talk a tough game about something you've NEVER done.

Let's see now, how many contests have you done? Zero
How many top tens in any category? Zero
Are you a judge? Nope.

See a trend here?

Read it again, it just say get out there and have fun, YOU took it wrong.

Quote:
And didn't you say you weren't competing until 2009?
Buddy, get out there and do it, now. You've asked enough questions and you're over analizing it (my opinion) It's not a recipe, it's fun.
Compete this year, have some fun and you'll build up some experience now that you work on for next year.

Plenty of people like to ask, but the point is you'll learn more by competing. Unless your afraid your 20 years won't be good enough to keep your from DAL (that's Dead Axx Last for you non competitors) Oh and in case you ask, I've never been DAL.

I've contributed plenty of information for you and others and that you took offense, just consider you won't be getting my help. Try to help and get it thrown back.

Dude.....

p.s.

I missed this one until I say AllSmoke's response (thanks for the response Mike, we need to do some serious drinking at the next contest)

Quote:
Maybe what sets me apart from you is I care about winning,

No Smoke, your desire is to keep asking questions, not winning. If it was winning, you've be out trying to win. IS your definition of winning getting a GC. Guess I'm a loser in your book.

Smoke, you have NO idea about me and my winning. I got 3rd in Pine BLuff against the top 40 teams in the country. I chose to drive twice as far to compete against the big boys instead of a closer contest because of my DESIRE to win. And I find it funny that 3 separate teams in the top ten of today's rankings overall rankings have asked me for help. Hmmm, maybe I need to tell them I haven't won a GC and they won't ask.

Your right Mike, it may be a long time before I share information. Try to help and look what it gets you.

Okie, New to this forum but love it. All I can say is, please don’t let some blow hard idiot ruin it for the rest of us. I didn’t see anyone agreeing with this arrogant troll so obviously says a lot about the feelings on this forum about you. He would of done himself and the rest of a huge favor if he had rested his troll a$$ as well as his opinion about you.
