Hate to snuff the flames but is this barbecue sauce any good? I saw it on the shelf yesterday but held off a buy. I make my own sauce as most of us do but I do like to try other sauces. My only real problem with commercial sauces is the flavor of the corn syrup.
Before the days of corn syrup in everything including Coke things tasted much better.
If you are old enough, you will remember Barbecue sauces like Kraft, Open Pit were really quite good in days before sugar was removed. _________________ Vertical Brick pit wood burner

I like it quite a bit. I would say it is the best widely available sauce, that is until Sa-Mokin takes over the world.
I used to use in exclusively in competitions. _________________

LMAO I wondered the same thing it took me three differnt stores to find it here but I found it and going to use it this weekend . I will be giggling inside while everyone is sitting around disscusing the pros and cons of this new flavor.. I will decide then if I will use it in comp the next weekend ,, Either way You all need to agree to disagree.. Its ok to do that ,, Just cause you don't like the same sauce doesn't mean you can't exstend the hand and shake it already. If you were my childern I would make you say one thing nice about the other person.
I will be thinking of you both Saturday though and chuckling,, _________________ He who laughs last, thinks slowest

I tried it for the first time last year and I remember that it was decent. It was a little on the sweet side, kind of like KC Masterpiece only lighter and a little more tangy. But it wasn't anything that I'd do cartwheels over. I can see why some might not like it. To each their own. I just bought a jar of that Bone Suckin stuff. I've been dying to just open it and try it. So we'll see. I always have my own sauce in the fridge these days, and I find that I almost always like mine better. And that's all that matters.
UPDATE: I just tried that Bone Suckin sauce and the only thing about the name that fits is Suck! It was like a bad Kikkoman sweet and sour jar sauce without the sour. Way too sweet and too strong on the honey flavor. I wasted $5. It might be good for dipping chicken nuggets, but BBQ? No way am I gonna ruin good food! In hindsight, I'd pick SBR over Suck sauce any day. SBR may not make good Q better, but it certainly won't ruin it.

While I enjoy a couple of SBR sauces, I don't use them on just anything. I don't stick with any specific sauce and a lot depends on who I'm cooking for. In addition, his sauce alters quite a bit depending on the method of cooking. For example, it seems to have a very low burning point but that's not nesc. a bad thing. Many people enjoy a bit of burnt sauce on pork steaks. In addition, it also depends on the smoker, the grill, gas or electric, how long you have it on, who you're cooking for, how much you apply, if you've thinned it, etc...Not too mention what part of the world you're in. (I think this is a pretty important one)
But when all said and done, who cares??? If everyone liked and operated the same, this forum would be pointless.
Food is such a subjective matter.
I don't really pay much attention but I don't see all that much arguing on this board. I don't think I've pissed people off but who know...I don't think anyone on here has ever pissed me off...Well, except for "Smokey Joes" uneducated, defensive and delusional wife
I guess to recap...no one should be losing sleep based on what someone elses likes or dislikes. Pretty simple in my opinion. |

Next time I go to the store I will give it a try. I assume the original would be best. _________________ Vertical Brick pit wood burner

| SBR is not a bad sauce if you like sweet. It is a little sweeter than I like so I and add malt vinegar, cayenne pepper, and garlic to taste. My wife and kids like it straight out of the bottle. |

Something to keep in mind, that the public LOVES SBR, Kraft, KC Masterpiece, Cattleman's, etc, etc and sometimes in these contests, when they taste a "familiar" flavor, they vote for it.
I know for a fact, from a team back a few years, that every time he competed, he asked what the #1 seller was in the local grocery stores. And he did pretty well with it, won more than his share of contests.

I agree with that 100%. Most judges may be trained & certified, but they are still everyday folks that enjoy BBQ. Many of the instructors and the various BBQ contest classes also teach about regional flavors & styles being considered if traveling to contests.

I'll buy SBR when it's buy-one-get-one. The original is way too sweet for me, so I heat it up some and it's ok. _________________ Ducane NG

I tried making a clone recipe of that sauce, I couldn;t lose the ketchup flavor no matter what I did wth it.
I ended up making it an Inferno-hot sauce with the hopes that it would kill the tastebuds so the ketchup taste wouldn't be so prominent. it then tasted like hot ketchup.
I am still really digging "Mrs Griffins" line of sauces, I could drink it for breakfast.
Has anyone else tried the "Mrs Griffins" sauce offerings? if anyone has a clone recipe of those I would like to give it a try. Thanks. _________________ Just remember that the toes you may step on during your climb to the top will also be attached to the a$$es you'll be forced to kiss on your way back down! |
