I don't like all of the smoke pouring out of the small gaps between the door and the main chamber. I've heard of using an oven gasket helps. How do you attach it - with some sort of adhesive? Any other solutions? Thanks.

Several guys doing ECB mods have been getting good results with fiberglass rope. I believe they're using furnace cement to stick them into place.

Ace Hardware on line sells Rutland's Replacement Stove Gasket Kits (various size and length also comes with the adhesive)). I order two package 1/2 inch x 84 inch long this morning to get a better seal on my pit and the ash tray under the fire box on my longhorn.

Why are you concerned with the smoke coming through the cracks? Are you finding you are loosing to much heat? On my wood burner I dont care how much smoke comes out of the cracks I cant see where it would speed or reduce cook time.. Whats your frame of mind. I would like to know should I seal up my Big Cooker..

I have never used either of these products, but I have read threads on here where people were less then impressed with the stove cement, and preferred hight temp silicone to adhere it. I have also seen posts where people drilled and pop riveted things into place.

Pop rivets sound the best to me, but I plan to use the silicone just to avoid drilling that many holes. If it was a smaller door on my build I would rivet it...

My thinking is that smoke escaping through the cracks around the door lessens the concentration of smoke in the cooker, thereby lessening the smokiness of the food inside. Also, from an asthetics standpoint, I think it would just look cooler if all the smoke escaping was coming from the chimney.

Cool is a major factor!!! I really like cool stuff. When I ordered my lang 84 the lil lady said why does it have to be so big, and I said for the cool factor and "size does matter" Very Happy
