"I thought I was out, but they keep pulling me back in!"
Where are you getting your number and what does it represent? Here's the statement from State Farm for 2007:
"The combined net worth of the State Farm group of companies (Group Net Worth) increased $5.6 billion in 2007, resulting in an overall net worth figure of $63.7 billion"
That's not a large % increase. People look at the big number and fail to realize that it's big b/c State Farm is big, not b/c they are making crazy returns on their investment. _________________ I likes to eat 'da pig!

If I remember correctly, the non-coastal area's have been seeing alot of wildfires lately too. and when I was down there the Port Charlotte/Punta Gorda always had a fire happening, Enough to post signs on I-75 warning drivers to watch for smoke on the highway.
Could that be part of it?
I was absolutely floored when I discovered car insurance rates down there, (this was 20 ears ago too) then one morning listening to the traffic reports of 30 plus wrecks every hour in a 2 county area made me understand better.
I looked at driving down there as; "when I get in a wreck" not "if I get in a wreck"
Then 3 months into my life down there I had it happen! head-on, midday by an 83 year-old that the state of FL decided to give a drivers license to again after his home state revoked him for seizure issues. Thanks F-DOT
I think I know what the "F" is short for now!! _________________ Just remember that the toes you may step on during your climb to the top will also be attached to the a$$es you'll be forced to kiss on your way back down! |

Poppa, that represents an industry profit, and an overall view of states profit/losses (I should have been more specific).
You are also misinformed about what State Farm actually pays out here, and their overall risk in this state. Citizens (the state run insurer) is who actually underwrites the wind damage part of the policy.
They have money for massive add campaigns, a Nascar team, major sporting event sponsorships (we could go on and on). When you got money for this, you are making crazy money!
So the company overall isn't hurting. Once again, it's the Vegas business model at work- the house ALWAYS wins.
Once again, you didn't answer some of my questions.
Florida is not alone in losses. Does eveyone else need at 47% rate hike (from what I'm reading from you that would be yes- it's a "fair" rate increase in your book).
Don't get me wrong, I do appreciate having a top rated company provide my coverage that does payout when shizzle happens.
But after 4 hurricanes in 2005 it didn't happen here. And it hasn't happened for the past almost 90 years.
Expain this as well: My father has his home insured through Travelers for $250,000 and pays $200 more a year for the same coverage I get for my home insured at $90,000. He was crabbing about the cost until I told him "the deal' I was getting.
I'm mainly just busting your McNuggets. Tell your bosses at the State Farm office you work for that you gave it your best shot! _________________ BBQMAN

Just looking at the figures... I need to move south, I only pay about $500 for State Farm insurance here, but My real estate taxes are over $7500 ... I'm getting screwed. I'd rather have the high insurance. _________________ Only when humor is married with intelligence does it become wit, until then it's just another dumb assed thing better left unsaid...

I bought my home in 1990 Fatrat. We have a "save our homes cap" that only allows a 2% increase in property taxes a year as long as you stay in your home.
The intent of that is so that retired folks that have stayed in their homes are not taxed out of them.
Most of my neighbors have been here awhile, but the new arrivals pay current tax rates of around $2,000. It's a working class hood, I don't live on the water.
The house I remodeled last year (waterfront) has low taxes as well because the owner has been in it since 1980. The doctor across the street that bulldozed the original home and built new is paying over $20,000 a year in taxes, and $12,000 a year for insurance.......................
It does take some of the sting out of high insurance rates. When I first moved in here, my property insurance was $231 a year! That was 18 years ago, but it makes you wonder don't it? _________________ BBQMAN
