| Anyone tried the New Brinkmann offset that they sell at Bass Pro? It is call the Deluxe Cimarron. It seems to be a nice unit made with 1/4" steel and priced at $499. |

Brinkmann's website lists it at $1199.00. It's one of the heavy gauge (1/4 " steel) Brinkmann smokers. It also has the following: Fryer attachment with 30,000 BTU adjustable burner
LP log/charcoal lighter system for easy lighting
Regulated LP gas system with control panel and unique convection system in cooking chamber to distribute heat evenly
If you could really get it for $499 (Brinkmann Cimarron Deluxe) I would grab it. |

I bought a cimmaron in may of this year. It is my second smoker (first smoker was a ECB vertical water smoker). It is very heavy duty. I made extensive modifications to it before I started cooking with it. I extended the smokestack to grate level, installed 1/4" thick heat baffle and tuning plates on rails, sealed the side firebox door with 1/8" flat steel stock, added upper rails to accomodate a 2nd shelf, put on 12" pneumatic wheels and axles (it was virtually impossible to move around with stock wheels), lowered the temp gauge, new charcoal rack and added a storage shelf under the cooker.
It holds heat very well but it is definitely not a set-it and forget-it cooker. I normally use a base of charcoal then add small split logs. I have cooked just about everything but fish on it so far. The surface area on the main grate is 15.5"x30" which is big enough for 2 full briskets or 3 butts. It weighs around 240-250lbs.
I paid $449 (on sale) at Bass Pro for the base model (no propane system) |

| Wow, if it's that heavy duty it and you can get it for that price, I might have to take a look at it. I'm looking at buying one and can't really afford to fork out the money for a Horizon or something similiar. How did it smoke before you made the mod? Just curious. I wasn't doubting you iahawgheaven, I was just posting what information I could find on it. I don't really need the propane systems either, although I guess the log lighter could be nice. |

I didn't cook on it before I made the baffle and tuning plate mods, however I did season it one time. The temp differential from the firebox side to the exhaust side was b/w 75-100 degrees at the grate level. When I went to Bass Pro they only had the base cimmaron unit. The one in that link is for the deluxe unit with the propane starter for the same price as the base unit. I would jump on that deal if it is indeed the unit with the propane system. I think that price is for just the base unit though.
Edit: When I went to Bass Pro, they had 3 Brinkmann units - cimmaron base unit, the southfork, and a upright cabinet smoker with a square side firebox (I can't remember the name) |

| Are they advertising the deluxe on the web but only have the base? Or is the base unit the only unit in stores? I think that I read the website correctly and it said deluxe with log lighter. Maybe I'll call them tomorrow and see if I can get to the root of the question and report back. |

When I was at the actual store, they only had the base model (no-propane system). It would be a good idea to call to make sure which model they are talking about on the website. If the deluxe model is really $499 now, I would jump on it! Please let me know because I will be really pissed! It is a very good smoker. The only draw back is the small size. You will not be able to cater with it but for personal use it is great. It will cook plenty of food for up to 20 people after some modification. I had 14lbs of butts and 14lbs of brisket in one cook over the 4th with 14 people, when it was all over there were tons of leftovers.
Edit: I will try to dig up my receipt and compare item numbers with the website.
2nd Edit: The receipt only has a SKU # not the item number. If you add the smoker to your cart on the website the description changes to "Black GoldŽ FlashPoint Ignite Bow Sight". I think that something is incorrect with the website listing. |
