Some members on a non - BBQ board I post on are considering having a BBQ cookoff. I'd like to pick your collective brains for ideas, tips, resources - anything we can use to help organize and plan the function. No date/location has been set, but we are tenatively looking at next spring. Any help is appreciated. _________________ 22.5 Weber Kettle

I would either contact the KCBS or FBA(depending on where you are at).
The KCBS will oversee even a non sanctioned cook off in many cases, if the goal is to get bigger going forward.
I can tell you a lot goes into a cook off and far more than any of us ever imagine.

If possible, visit (volunteer if possible) a sanctioned cookoff.
Get in contact with the sanctioning bodies and read through their stuff.
Local chamber of commerce around here does a nice "amateur" cookoff. They made it a point to go heavy on the charity angle. As a result, there are several corporations that enter the contest.
Even with the BBQ competition, you might want to still have a "backyard" category for folks that are a bit intimidated or not capable of a full fledged BBQ competition. |
