Oct 20; was a happy day, I had ordered my S&W 500 via Sams and was eagerly anticipating it's arrival, in time for a Thanksgiving smoke-a-thon.
As my anticipated date got closer, I began to inquire as to it's status and was given an estimated date of Nov 18 as a delivery day and I was given a web-site to track the order. After checking the site, it was clear to me why I had not been given any firm dates,.... it just didn't seem to be making it's way here, and nobody knew where it was.
Finally, after 5 weeks I cancelled the order and wouldn't ya know it, a few days later I got a call from the local shipper telling me that it was here. I did tell them to bring it, but Sams had cancelled it, so...nah...I'm not going to hassle over this thing anymore.
Please don't get this (post) wrong, while I am dissapointed in the lack of tracking info via Sams, I am simply posting for the benefit of other members to understand that it took 5 weeks to get to the east coast, never mind arriving at my house. Sams will continue to get my business at the local store, I have no problem with that, but I will not be ordering my smoker thru the online store. I just needed to schedule the delivery better than their info would allow.
My personal travel schedule is a mess this time of year, so I probably should not have ordered it anyway. I am going to give that hardware store out there in Mt. Angel the order after Christmas, when things settle down a bit.
Thanks for allowing me to vent. I feel better, now.

Patience ! It takes a long time to place an order in China, make it, put it on the boat, then truck it to you
Don't you know NOTHING is made in the USA anymore
Except good ol' q pitts !! |

Actually it's made a few miles from me. One of the few things still made here unfortunately.
I have been trying to get down to Mt.Angel and get some supplies but *&^#&* holiday things keep coming too fast!! I need to get some Prime Rib rub so I can do a "sample" Prime rib before I do the real deal.
Sorry to hear about your frustrations, I have had similar frustrations with getting my sports car running. A month in the shop and it still doesn't pass DEQ.......luckily the mechanic didn't charge too much ($700). Now I just need to find a mechanic who will charge me more and do all the things I just had done over again so that maybe I can get it to pass.... Sorry, bit off topic but I do understand your frustration! |

Yea, the Sams Smith & Wesson 500 is the Treager 125. It's about $300 cheaper (at Sams) than buying from a local guy, even with freight and tax. I will place my order here at some point in the near future with the hardware guy or somebody. With all the Christmas hub-bub going on, I think I'll wait for a while. Good thing I have the ole stand-by smoker if I get a Q attack!

Thanks, I could not remember their name. I did chat with them back in Oct and they were same price, delivered even with no tax. I flipped a coin.
They will be getting a call from me when I get ready to get her done!(again) _________________ Success=Practice, Practice, Practice..... |

Yeah, I guess you are about as far away from Oregon as possible in the continental US lol shipping is probably pretty high. If you made some ABT's and Ribs,I would gladly deliver it right to you! |

Whew, that's a heck of an offer! According to my map program it is 2,827.8 miles from Mt. Angel to my doorstep. Don't get me wrong, I love Q, but that's a loooong way to go. Heck, I'd even buy the beer, come on over! We might have to improvise on the ABT's, I have not tried them yet. But, given enough Q 'n brew....who knows?
It's going to be a long winter, huh?

BTW the shipping was $235, which probably explains things....(cheap) _________________ Success=Practice, Practice, Practice..... |

Weldon,
I was one of the people that ordered from Boschlers (sp?) and was delighted with the experiance. Not only was Kyle less expensive, but the delivery time from Oragon to W. PA was five days!
I placed the order on a Friday and late Wed. afternoon a truck pulled up with my baby. The shipping order said it came from Alabama, so evidently there are multiple warehouse / depots that inventory Traegers.
BTW - I also go the 125 and am very happy with it.

Hahaha well I was kidding around just a little bit. I do have family in Michigan I would love to see, but for Q alone.......it would be a tough call.
Good luck with the Q and any assistance you need in ordering or anything else let me know! |

I will be picking up my Lil'Tex tomorrow. Called Kyle at Boschler's and he gave me his best price. When he called me back after calling Traeger for the shipping cost, he suggested I call my local dealer to see if they would give me the same deal. He said if they wouldn't to call him back. It sounded like maybe Traeger is trying to increase sells with the local dealers. Anyway, I called the local dealer and he has agreed to give me the same deal. Kyle was very nice and helpful but of course for the same price why wait 5 days for delivery. The local dealer is only an hour away. Can't wait to get the new Traeger home and see what it will do. Hopefully I won't waste to much good meat figuring out how to cook on it. I have been grilling meat on a Weber gas grill for the last few years. Call Kyle and get his best price. Then call the local dealer and ask them to match it. If they don't Kyle will be happy to sell you a Traeger.

Good idea! Most of the dealers around here don't negotiate much. I found one that had a BBQ100 from last season that they would come down off the price, but still more than Boschlers. They are only 45minutes to an hour away, but it is a pain for me to try to get to Boschlers on my days off. The dealers around here sell pellets for a few dollars more a bag so it's worth it for me to get it local and save the gas $$
Let us know how you 1st Q goes! |

When I got to the dealer on Saturday he had a Tex that had a couple on paint chips for only $100 more than the LilTex. So for that price, I couldn't pass up the larger cooking area. Cooked my first Boston Butt on it Tuesday. Put it on around 7:00am and went to work. Got home at 4:00pm and by 4:30pm it was ready to eat. It turned out great! It is so nice to be able to go to work and not worry about tending to the cooker.
