We have a super old ECB here at the firestation (no door on the side). We are using it for the first time today with royal oak lump and water in the pan and I cannot get the temps up. It is hanging at about 200, I cant get it up to 225-250. Any ideas?

If it is the kind with the bowl to hold the charcoal drill some holes around the edge of the bowl. Also goggle ECB mods and some of the common mods will come up.

Thanks for the suggestoin. I doesnt have a bowl, it is just a bottom pan with slits in it. I think I am going to drill a few holes in the sides and see how it goes. Either that or we'll all be kicking in to buy a better one for the firehouse.
