I built this little pit 22 years ago, we did a bbg competition and
won some moneys this summer, so we decided to take the moneys
and up grade this little pit.
These next pictures are with the new top.
We saved the doors and reused them, we also changed the handles
and the locks.
We are putting cold and hot tanks on this pit too.
This is the hot water tank.
This is where we fill the hot water tank.
We use the hot water for clean up.
Please note I still have to put a vent on the tank itself
you can not see it in this picture but I also have a in line
vent on it to.
Every hot water tank I put in my pits always have 2 vents.
Twenty years ago when I made this pit I welded a box
on the back side of the fire box. We would fill it with water
to put a little steam in the pit, Billie got tried of opening
up the pit a putting water in the tank, this is how we
fill the water tank now.(this has a open top on the tank)
The last two pictures are what we call the diverter vent.
we can shut down the pit itself from the fire box to check the food.
There is a door between the fire box and the pit that we close,
we then turn the T handle to open which alowes the fire
to keep running, when you are done checking your food
shut the T handle open up the door to the pit and the temp
goes right back to where it was.
the reason I do this is because I got tried of eyes hits
(smoke in the eyes)

That's a real nice compact rig you have there and it sure looks like you have the talent to get the redo done. Don't forget to post when it's finished.

Yeah I like that rig Chuck but I have neither the time and or talent to build a rig like that. I am looking to go with a bigger offset and am looking at a Lang Mobile 60.

Nice work, Chuck! Thanks for sharing.
Skidder, I have a Lang 60 and love it! I don't have Chuck's ability either.

thanks Florida Pete I will show pictures when the pit is done.
Another reason to get this done, I feel like I have a used car lot
at the house right now.

Wow, that's great. Did you roll those new handles yourself? Great door locking mechanism. _________________ D. Tillery

Skidder I am a carpenter by trade, I have been doing
ornamental iron for the last 4 years. Been welding from
high school, I know how to weld but I am not a real welder,
whole different game to me.
I got 30 pits under my belt that i have done.
The Iron work pays better.
I do like making bbq pits (big time hobby)

Chuck you must get a ton of interest when you bring the little one anywhere. I like your work. Definitely different than anything else out there.

Those are some of the most unique designs I've seen. I can tell y'all, having seen these pits in person, you could drop 'em off a roof and it wouldn't harm them. They are solid.
